Edge of insanity

Original Metal on a Thursday Night? Must be at Amplified Live since they seem to be one of the few venues that give local bands a great place to play in Dallas on a weeknight!
Opening the show were up and comers, Among The Fallen with their sinewy riffs mixed with clean and hardcore vocals supplied by Ana Xano. They belted out one metal anthem after another, very loudly I might add such as "Shadows", "Walls Of Society" and "Never" before closing their set with "Lost My Way". The band is comprised of Stefean Cox, Jesse Greenstone, Ron Blackstone and Scott Smith. If you like your metal on the heavier side give them a listen.
Edge Of Insanity came up next and it sounded like a freight train hit the stage as vocalist Lance Lutz (sounding like Painkiller era Rob Halford) belted out some piercing screams especially on the tune "Time”. The band includes Stergas Stockwell (guitar), Daniel Moore (bass) and Gary Dacus on drums. They blistered the crowd and left a stamp on each person's forehead that read "Metal!" Other standouts included "Feed On Me", "Hollow" and "Rise", if you like heavy melodic songs with a Judas Priest influence you will love this band!
Dreamkeeper closed the night out with it's brand of melodic twin lead power metal with soaring vocals and catchy choruses. Taylor Dennis (Lead Vocals/Lead Guitar), Ron Carson (Lead Guitar/Vocals), Nick Troutman (bass) and Carlos Rios on the skins make up this powerful band. They riddled through their staples from their first album such as "Ashes Of Hope", "Forever Fire", "Lost Forever" and "The Great Decay" to name a few. But the fans were treated to a new song from the upcoming album called "Wolf Am I" which took everyone by surprise. The night ended with Lance Lutz getting up on stage as they collaborated on a unrehearsed "Painkiller" and rousing rendition of Grim Reapers "See You In Hell"!

This group hails from Dallas and in their biography they call themselves a modern reincarnation of classic heavy metal. In reality, listening to this minilp, composed of 5 long songs, the impression is of something more ambitious than a mere re-proposition of stylistic elements and models heard thousands of times.

Their metal strongly influenced by doom and thrash, primarily by Black Sabbath, also contains particular elements, such as the absolutely psychedelic solos, full of seventies effects, by the guitarist Stergas Stockwell that characterize each song a little, long acid rides that then and there seem to really enter little with the rest of the musical proposal of the group, but in the long run they have its why.

Initially born as a cover band by Ozzy Osbourne, Edge of Insanity have transformed and evolved over the last few months, assembling different compositional nuances in the various passages, which make this "Redemption" a heterogeneous product but full of potential even at first listen. , which will be verifiable in the full length that the band has announced as next.

The five songs are, as I repeat, a little unrelated to each other, but very beautiful. We start with “Feed”, with very accentuated stoner-doom sounds and an aftertaste that brings Black Sabbath closer to their masters and inspirers. Daniel Moore's thundering bass is the driving instrument of “Prison”, another song with strong doom influences and more. The third song brings a new change of style and here it comes very close to the classic metal that Edge of Insanity indicates in the biography. The riff that animates the piece knows a lot of Judas Priest, even if the voice of Lance Lutz, working on the high tones, reminds me a lot of Rob Halford but, in particular, another great vocalist, namely Eric Knutson of Flotsam & Jetsam. A slide guitar introduces "Undertow", a very bluesy piece with southern references, which is very surprising but which proves that Edge of Insanity have ideas and executive skills. The song, composed on the banks of the Mississippi, proceeds on semi-acoustic and very particular tones, which also highlight the depth of the singer's voice. The concluding "The River", which seems to be the electric evolution of the previous track, is the first song composed by the band in its current configuration and offers a very doom-oriented Sabbathian sound, which makes us understand what the coordinates of the next release will be. of this Dallas band, made up of excellent musicians, like drummer Gary Dacus who is then the one who pulled the strings in the early part of the life of this combo, managing the difficult phase of the pandemic.
