Bio

Edward Joseph is a lifelong musician, and as of recently an accomplished guitarist and songwriter. He was born and raised in southeastern Massachusetts, namely the suburban town of North Attleborough. As a child Edward had an affinity for electronic keyboards and the grand pianos at his grandparents’ houses. Although he did not pursue piano on a professional level, he began his journey as a musician in the 4th grade, playing trombone for his elementary school band. Playing in a large ensemble was the foot in the door for more intimate, contemporary musicianship. In 1999, at ten years old, Edward got his first bass guitar as a Christmas gift. He had yet to find the music that would inspire him the most, and a direction for his creativity. He began learning fast and was praised by his instructors for his extraordinary natural ear for music. At twelve years old Edward was starting bands with his classmates. He recorded for the first time with his second band, Pointless Tradition, and the result was a short album, which was an instant hit in the halls of his middle school. Pointless Tradition never made it past the annals of adolescence, but Edward’s passion for music lived on. Inspired at the time by local punk rock bands, Edward continued his pursuit of musical fame, and more importantly, creative fulfillment. His songwriting and composing ability was first highlighted in his high school’s production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, for which he helped both score and perform for an audience of hundreds. After changing high schools, Edward found a heavy metal band called Fatechange in need of a bassist. Fatechange showed him his first experiences in recording studios and live venues. Despite his zeal for helping manage the band and ironclad friendships with his band mates, Edward soon found himself solo again. Having seen the promise a career in music can offer, and beginning to truly sense the steps needed to get there, Edward decided in March of 2008 that his creativity was limited by his role as a bassist. He wanted to be able to write his own songs and let his creativity shine with the broader, more melodic range of a guitar. Edward took his last hurrah as a bassist with a touring metal band called Ambush, Operator! and then began writing his own acoustic songs. He started by performing for friends at local Open-Mic nights. His early performances led him to the realization that his vocal timbre was not suited to the role of singer-songwriter. Luckily, he met one Chuck Durang, a performer at an Open-Mic who would become Edward’s mentor in fingerstyle guitar technique. Chuck’s lessons gave Edward’s songwriting a new dynamic. While staying with friends in Durango, Colorado, Edward made his living busking with a majority of original material. He also got his first contract composing the score for a children’s musical, armed with a healthy knowledge of home studio production. Now back in North Attleborough, Massachusetts, Edward continues to write songs and pursue further musical development. He is currently working tentatively with a singer to compliment his intricate fingerstyle technique. He still frequents Open-Mics and is highly motivated to book his own acts. For lack of remarkable vocals, his music is just short of contemporary industry standards. Yet as a guitarist, Edward’s indie, folk, and roots blues style is seemingly unique and novel for his age. He continues to learn and educate himself on a consistent basis motivated by future goals. He strives for a skill and creativity so remarkable that adequate vocals would not be necessary to justify distinguished performances.
