Comedian Edwin San Juan? Never heard of him. But after seeing this DVD I know YOU will, as this Filipino comedian will soon be a household name! I had the good fortune of seeing his DVD and I was extremely impressed. While the production was slightly lacking, the humor wasn't. Edwin's take on his family and the Filipino community is hysterical. I was almost on my back as his style of comedy is old school, as a guy who tells funny stories about his upbringing, his family and his friends. If you have seen him before, it was the following- as he has performed on BET's COMIC VIEW or Showtime’s THE LATINO LAUGH FESTIVAL. And he has performed his stand up routine at comedy clubs like the IMPROV, THE COMEDY STORE, THE COMIC STRIP and THE LAUGH FACTORY. To kick off the first night of Homecoming week, ASPB showcased three comedy acts: the first involving black comedian Bruce Jingles whose hilarious rendition of Samuel L. Jackson had the crowd in stitches, the second featured Filipino comedian Edwin San Juan who garnered the loudest approval from the audience, and featured Jeff Garcia as the headliner, who does voice work for the cartoon "Jimmy Neutron."

The second act featured San Juan, a self-proclaimed 36-year-old who still lives at home with his parents. He had the entire audience busting up with laughter at his many antics involving an imitation of how old Flipinos all look alike and a show he would like to see up on the television, "Queer Factor," where gay men must act straight to win the cash prize at the end. Along with the comedian acts, there was a very vocal audience member in the back of the audience who shouted out every now and then, "let me smoke you out!" This just fit in with the theme of San Juan's act as he talked to the audience about why marijuana is better for people than other drugs since it is impossible to over dose on it. Time magazine has an article which states, in order for a person to overdose on marijuana they must smoke 900 joints in 24 hours.

It's a one-two combo of chuckles as The Laugh Factory presents comedians Edwin San Juan and Paul Ogata. Los Angeles based San juan won UPN's "The Talent Agency" nine weeks in a row.

For some comedians who possess an enormous amount of talent: it's just a matter of when. In the case of Edwm San Juan, this is exactly the case. The long-time veteran of standup comedy is literally on the brink of super stardom. Recently, Edwin was the winner of UPN's "The Talent Agency," an astonishing nine weeks in a row. "When I watched the show, he (Edwin) seemed to be in a league by himself," raved well-known Casting Director Nancy Foy. Foy went on to say, "This guy will break it big sooner rather than later." Impressing audiences and industry ~ pros is nothing new for this thirty-something Filipino, who was." raised in Los Angeles. Edwin has excelled on several television J shows and on stages at the biggest comedy clubs in America. "All the comics were funny that night, but he (Edwin) was by far the funniest one up in that show," claims Smith. "His bit about filipino people mixing up the b's and the p's is one of the funniest things I've ever seen," says Smith. In a business where funny comedians , are a dime a dozen, San Juan separates ,j himself from the competition by sticking to personal life stories and specific stories about his Filipino up bringing. Whether it's a simple facial expression explaining how all Filipino's have the same look as old people or the tact that they all take karaoke way too serious. Edwin takes the audience through a journey of his life. "The great ones tell us who they are and what they believe," says Rick Messina of Messina/Baker Management. Many believe that Edwin San Juan has that great quality. Edwin is a terrific personal story teller," explains Hollywood power manager Christopher Wright.

Edwin will continue his stand up comedy and hopes to expand his already growing television and movie career. '.1 really want to hit the commercials, television shows, and movie auditions hard," says San Juan.
