Biography

Born in Los Angeles, Effi is the first generation of her family born in the United States. Growing up with her grandfather, a Greek Born in Los Angeles, Effi is the first generation of her family born in the United States. Growing up with her grandfather, a Greek opera singer, and her mother who inherited his voice, Effi was surrounded by rich melodic voices and a wide range of music. She grew up with opera, the powerful 5/4 and 9/4 rhythms of Greek music, the heavy guitars of American rock and the soulful sound of blues. Effi was a student of classical piano since childhood, but in her teenage years she turned away from the discipline of playing the music of classical composers, and became fascinated with the creation of her own music.

Absorbing both worlds of rich vocals and the edgy guitars of rock & alternative music, she replaced piano with guitar as her writing tool, and her style took shape. The result is a mixture of varied time signatures supported by rhythmic rock guitar and melodic, expressive vocals.

Effi now lives in the Boston area and is continually creating new work

Lyrics

Calling Your Name

Written By: Effi

I watch you as you go
exit scene like some hero
I watch the silence take your place
your years have left from your face

time you took it and you made it into me
your voice you took it and you put it into me

it's calling your name
it's calling your name

your grey eyes watched me grow
enter scene like some hero
I took no fire under your grace
your hand was there to shield my face

visions they look like you
you put them into me
words you wrote them and
you gave them to me

they're calling your name

Sun in Her Eyes

Written By: Effi

she was born on the day
the music died
her momma took one look at her
and just cried
her momma had to turn her head away
'cause the sun was in her eyes

people came from miles and
miles around
just to watch that wonder
lie there without a sound
the people had to
turn their heads away
'cause the sun was in their eyes

is that Mother Mary?
is that Mother Mary?
I can see her face on the
plaster wall
is that Mother Mary?
is that Mother Mary?
I can see her gracious
teardrops fall

they say the music comes back
now and then
if you sit and listen quietly by
her bed
but careful not to look too long
'cause the sun'll burn your eyes

is that Mother Mary?
is that Mother Mary?
I can see her standing there
is that Mother Mary?
can't you see her standing there?
oh mother
oh mother

See You Again

Written By: Effi

in silence she moves
in the world of her mind
by daylight she removes
herself from sense and time
she sees faded faces she's lost
she dreams of their words
fallen in dust

I'll see you again
I'll see you again

her life has come and gone
one hundred times over
each time she's overcome
silencers of her anger
she looks to me with smile absurd
she calls to me in fated words

I'll see you again
I'll see you again

her visions pass to me in turns
of her history relearned
she waits for me to listen
she waits for me
she waits

History

Written By: Effi

history moves in the shadows
of your closed eyes
mastery of teh manmade follows
the path of most denials

history chasing its tail again
another line in a history book
gets lost just like an old friend

the soul of a rich and free land
draws its lush and golden curtains
over the grave of a broken man
James Byrd dragged to untimely end

history chasing its tail again
another line in a history book
gets lost just like an old friend

the newspaper finds its way
back to words it shown before
the pictures tell the latest tale
recycled like the oldest lore

ring around the old scenes
pocket full of trashed dreams

Someday

Written By: Effi

when you see my face
it's clear you know its place
for you it means
someday
someday

when will you find me
and see me
beyond someday
someday

(chorus)
I'll never be
your girlie fantasy
I'm right here, right now
It's me
can't you see
I'll only ever be
just right here, right now
just me

you don't see the harm
of me dressed up on your arm
just so you can say
the day is here
the day is here

I ain't no woman in drag
in dresses of hags
and beauty queens
that are fighting for your scene

(chorus)

(bridge):
the world I've chosen not to follow
it's a path of loneliness & sorrow

Something More

Day to Day

Written By: Eff

no place for you darling
your dark eyes dull 'till the light
catches them again
no place for you darling
you roam the flatlands 'till you
get your high again

day to day rolls by
the slow tumble
rocks you to sleep every night
day to day rolls by
as you wonder
what keeps you from drifting
in and out of sight

where you headed darling?
did you find the right direction?
is it not what you expected?
waking up from your defection?

day to day rolls by
day to day rolls by

Soul Lover

Written By: Effi

soul lovers parting ways
so far along
in hardened hearts
and faithless sorrows
soul lovers parting ways
they call to the night
soulful night
I long to be in your arms

so far away
how did our love lose the way?
so far away
phantom hearts they
don't let my tired soul stray

clouded and dazed
by vultures and praised
thieves in the way
of soul lovers
soul lovers

so far away
whose hearts did we betray?
so far away
in the end, will they
find their way again

soul lovers, lost their way
soul lovers, finding their way

Ikaros

Written By: Effi

falling he is falling
Ikaros is falling
to the sea
his final plea

reaches the light
of the rising sun
it answers the call
of the brazen one
fire it puts to his
sacred wings

fallen he has fallen
Ikaros has fallen
in solemn flight
in flood of light

his beauty is greater than
open sky
faithless, he sinks with his
final cry
freedom it knows him again

what do you hope to find
in arms of open sky?
it whispers its song
softly under your wings
