"Turn on Your Funk Motor with the Eggshell Egoz Debut CD"

Get a groove on with Funky Poetz, the Eggshell Egoz debut album produced by Ronan Chris Murphy (King Crimson, Tony Levin). The Egoz blend funk, rock and pop emulsifying these genres to create their own unique sound.

The first single ‘Takin My Time’, has received radio airplay around the country and has had almost 2000 hits on their Myspace page ). The video can be seen on YouTube.

Eggshell Egoz is the brainchild of frontman Dave Whitton and guitarist Dave Walker. After forming in 2001, they added their current funkafide rhythm section starring bassist Dale Vix and drummer Jay Setar. To round out the Egoz, they got metal-based rhythm guitarist Rodney Amieva who brought a whole new dimension to the group.

The rock-funk sounds of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish and Psychophunkapus are echoed on songs like: “Funky Poetz”, “Slippery Slime”, “Environmentalists” and “Fungus”. While other tracks on the album are reminiscent of Hootie and the Blowfish and the Spin Doctors - not a bad combination. The real surprise on the album is “Manic Peaches”, not really in line with the other songs on the CD; this acoustic love ballad is laden with endearing lyrics and really highlights Dave Whitton’s vocal talent. You just can’t help wanting to break out a lighter and start swaying back and forth to it.

Billed with acts such as Liz Phair, The Spin Doctors, and Quincy Jones, the Egoz have played hundreds of amazing venues, festivals, and charities including The Key Club, Whisky A Go-Go, NARM and Tide Fest. Their latest show is Saturday, July 21st at Taco Beach in Long Beach, California.

Funky Poetz is a fun-filled; cruise to the beach type of debut. I say slather on some lotion, put the top down and crack open the new Eggshell Egoz CD

"Top down Joyride"

Laid back with an I don't care attitude music can be quite refreshing. These Cats deliver some down home grooves that get you bobbin' and smiling while their music envelops you with a feel good blanket. Musically tight and on point with their compositions Eggshell Egoz combines out there lyrics with an enticing top down car ride flow of music by the country. Nice!

"The New Sound?"

A new sound has emerged on the scene in 2005, Eggshell Egoz are a bit of everything and they bring new light to an otherwise dreary time in the music business. They keep you dancing while playing with your mind, keep this up and the revolution shall begin-Shawn Plunket-Flare Magazine - Flare Magazine

"Eggshell Egoz outlast the Red Hot Chili Peppers with their funky energy"

Reviewed by Howie Mitchell

Eggshell Egoz/Funky Poetz

To be fair, Eggshell Egoz don’t sound as much like the Red Hot Chili Peppers as they could’ve. Yes, the influence is definitely there - quite blatant, actually. But Eggshell Egoz do try to make their own flip on the fusion of rap, rock, and funk. In fact, they probably exert more energy on Funky Poetz than the Peppers did on their last couple of albums.

While the Peppers are entering their middle age and slowing nearly everything down to recapture the Top-40 magic of “Under the Bridge,” Eggshell Egoz are jumping out of the cage. The title track and “Slippery Slime” percolate with some über pulsating bass lines and face-slapping percussion. It is fun stuff, the kind of partying music you want blowing out of your speakers on a summer afternoon. “Riverbend” is driven by crunch-rock riffs and semi-rapped vocals that simply crush the bad memory of Sugar Ray. When Eggshell Egoz want to chill, such as on “Taking My Time” and “Manic Peaches,” they recall the best of Sublime without the haze of smoke.

"Eggshell Egoz are “jumpy, infectiously giddy” on ‘Funky Poetz’"

A group such as Eggshell Egoz could only have originated from California. This jumpy, infectiously giddy band marries the white funk of the Red Hot Chili Peppers with the singalong pop hooks of the Barenaked Ladies and the sun-baked lethargy of Sublime. Want to become an instant Egoz fan? Listen to “Slippery Slime” first on headphones; let the stainless-steel bass lines and pumping drums invade your ear space and throw a party. Then cut to “Simple Toys” with its fuzzy, grungy riffs that lean towards psychedelia. These guys are unable to contain themselves on record; you can almost sense that they are sweating from all the energy they’re burning here.

Vocalist Dave Whitton has a pleasant, soulful voice that works as a way of cooling off the hotbed of funk ‘n’ roll from his bandmates; it helps to give the songs balance and for listeners to catch their breath. When you have a tune as crazy as “Environmentalist” (echoing Fishbone’s most party-hard moments), you need an anchor to reel in the uninitiated, and Whitton provides that key. I don’t know how poetic Eggshell Egoz are, but they are funky without question.

"Funky Poetz - Eggshell Egoz"

Imagine Primus doing a pop-funk project...there yet? Now you have Eggshell Egoz. Their album, Funky Poetz is that slap happy album of pop-perfected funk with a tinge of obscurity riding the fringes, all soothed with the vocal performance and comfort of Jack Johnson.

Album opener, Funky Poetz rides like a quirky party out of Bonaroo. Simple Toys is the jam-oriented song grasping to the bands ability to groove in tight sync. Then to cap off the album is an acoustic nicety, Manic Peaches. Whitton's vocals surprise in this folksy lullaby quality. Its a move from funk-pop-obscurity to soothing acoustic rock in the vein of The Counting Crows.

Production is something these guys do amazingly well. The album has a stellar gloss about it!
