Egostatic

A handful of Chicago acts opened the show but the most impressive was Egostatic, whose snotty rock trumped the mediocre nu-metal of the night's other openers, Gaskit and Leftsetter. Even though songs like "Sugar" were laced with electronic samples, it was the raunchy riffs of guitarist Patrick and singer/guitarist Pauly that drove Egostatic's sound home. "Big Star Model Actress" and "Riding The Plastic" showcased influences like the new wave bop of The Cars to the gutter rock of Appetite For Destruction-era Guns N' Roses. Egostatic was highly energetic, stylishly sloppy, and proof that some still prefer the rock of Kiss and AC/DC over The Strokes or The White Stripes.
