"Eklectik Tackles Autism"

Niagara rock band E-klec-tik has made it a mission to take on autism.

Fronted by Mike Richards, whose 15-year-old son Dalton was diagnosed with autism six years ago, the group has re-recorded its debut single Know Your Place and uploaded it to online music service Bandcamp at $1.25 per download. Of that, 75 per cent of sales will go towards the St. Davids Lioness Club for the purchase of special needs dogs for people with autism.

“They’re like $22,000,” says Richards. “They were able to do two this year, which is awesome, but we want to help them to do more.”

Richards wrote Know Your Place from his son’s point of view, and was the band’s first single in the summer of 2015: “Stop this rocking to and fro / People think I’m putting on a show.” It has endured, and was re-recorded to be part of the band’s upcoming debut album.

“We got asked by a few stations to make it radio-ready,” he says. “So it got changed up.”

He’s “extremely happy” with the new version, and even played it for his son at a recent gig.

Formed in 2013, E-klec-tik has been a rock mainstay in the region, earning a best new band nomination at the Niagara Music Awards. At the same time, Richards has been active in the local autism community, forming the annual Singing Out For Autism concert fundraiser.

His efforts were borne out of frustration after his son was diagnosed at age nine, and the lack of clear, easy-to-access guidelines on how to get help. He joined local group Super Heroes of Autism Niagara and was soon the group’s vice-president. - John Law

Bio

Eklectik is a high energy, crowd participating classic rock style original band. With influences from all 6 members like Bon Jovi, The Tragically Hip, Sublime, Mellisa Ethridge, Pantera, and Children Of Bodom our originals become very diverse. Eklectik loves to put on a show to bring the crowd in, and thrives on the audience and fans.

Eklectik, a band coming out of Niagara Falls, Ontario, has taken their province by surprise. With the great success of their off the floor album "We Are E" they have found themselves being called upon from many venues across Ontario. Now in studio getting their first full length album ready to release, they are excited to bring their new music to their fans.

Eklectik was formed in 2013 and has had a successful musical journey thus far, with so much more a head of them. Their album, "We Are E", has topped the Reverbnation charts, which in turn had landed them a spot in the Guiness Book of World Records for the longest concert by multiple artists in 2017, which stemmed an 18-day period in Toronto, with many other top bands. Their ongoing success has brought the attention to open or be direct support for some major shows for the likes of Anvil, Pat Travers, Grim Reaper and Sven Gali to name a few, and also had a successful mini tour with Tim "Ripper" Owens of Judas Priest. With their upcoming show to be direct support for Trapt in Toronto, they are looking forward to releasing a few more new originals from their soon to be released album.

This Niagara Music Award nominee for Best New Band, can be heard regularly on both FM and Internet stations worldwide: Hamilton Y108, Kingston Q108 , Banks Radio (Australia), rbxradio.com (UK) and maxinkradio.com (USA) to name a few.
