Bio

Ekphrasis began at Panama City Beach as ex-Alloy guitarist Todd Graveman and drummer Adam Waldon planned to disband their group and form another one. They asked bassist John “Yetti” Nuss to join first. He had been in the band Standing Damaged, which disbanded shortly after he joined when their guitar player tragically committed suicide. After returning from the beach, the three approached ex-Estrange singer/guitarist Josh Weekley to front the band. They ambushed him at work, and the group has been together ever since. Originally calling themselves Esoteric, the band used that name for its entire career in Alabama. Based near Birmingham, it took the band some time to gain a fanbase because of the area’s complete lack of progressive music. After three years, Esoteric had won over local audiences and outgrown the Birmingham area. During their time in Alabama, they had the distinction of opening for Ipecac recording artists Skeleton Key and Metalblade artists King’s X. Esoteric quickly expanded their area, playing in Huntsville, Decatur, Nashville, Chattanooga, Berea, Louisville, Atlanta, Montgomery, Jacksonville, Meridian, Hattiesburg, and even Los Angeles, while maintaining their hold on Birmingham. The band had long known of a defunct, underground, British goth-metal band by the same name. However, after the Kansas hardcore band The Esoteric signed to a small label and was refused shows in the Southeast, Esoteric knew a name change was in order. The name Ekphrasis was adopted as the band moved to Los Angeles to pursue their career.
Now in Los Angeles, Ekphrasis is gaining fans with every show.
