The outfits that El Cabrero sports when he comes out to sing on a stage are no gimmick: in spite of the thirty years that he has spent singing, he has never given up being a goatherd, a work that he started when he was very young, and which appears to have shaped a personality and a philosophy of life that are unique.
A supporter of traditional singing, of the cante jondo (lit. "deep singing", an expression used to refer to flamenco), El Cabrero has always remained true to himself and to his own style, and has kept himself isolated from passing trends. He is particularly outstanding in the hardest palos (forms) like the soleá, the seguiriya and the tonás. El Cabrero is renowned for his soft, sober and austere voice, which is endowed with great strength and has all the nuances that are required to reflect the entire range of human feelings.
El Cabrero is one of the flamenco cantaores who has the greatest popular support, His ability and distinctive style have also been recognised by the critics, who have given him important awards like the one he obtained in the Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco (National Flamenco Art Competition) in Córdoba.
He has worked or shared a stage with Peter Gabriel. Chick Corea, Gilberto Gil, Taraf de Haidouks, , Lenny Kravitz, Ziggy Marley, John Trudell...,. After spending an important artistic career singing flamenco, El Cabrero surprisingly released a record of Argentinian tangos
