"BBC ATL Review"

It's Wednesday night, and at Aunty Annies West V's East have taken over, showcasing a trio of bands from different parts of the province. It's not quite as jam packed as it had been 7 days prior, when As I Watch You From Afar launched their EP to a full house. But with that said, the venue is about half full, which is pretty respectable considering most punters are downstairs, watching Manchester United being effortlessly outplayed by AS Roma. Tonight is already turning out to be a good night.

El Capitan kicks things off with their alt rock grunge stylings. This Fermanagh-based band is only newly formed, and so the song writing is still in its infancy, but that's not to say these guys are big babies. Mark Phair's vocals are pretty superb, and despite being hampered by a sound technician who clearly has no idea how to EQ his desk, his vocal range is pretty impressive. The influence of 90s rockers Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins is pretty blatant, and guitarist Sean McGoldrick's delay pedal doesn't quite seem in time during the last tune, but none of this goes to spoil what has essentially been a very promising set at this early stage in the band's career.

"Unsigned Ireland Review"

Newly formed el capitan havent been around for long , but listening to this demo submission you wouldnt know.

Submitting a three track demo, this ulster band hit all the buttons for a alternative fan like myself, big voice, clever arrangments, plenty of hooks but much notably the band have a fresh indieesque sound.

The band have had reputed label interest and despite a lack of live outings, are making (pictured) waves (excuse the pun) but time will tell if they can follow up on the initial excitment.

Overall, quite amazingly they sound like everyone but sound like no one and there lies the money shot!

Big things expected!

Bio

El Capitan are an alternative rock band from N Ireland. Only newly formed the band have began taking their initial steps of playing live on the local Irish alternative circuit. The band cite influences including Pearl Jam, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Smiths, and Radiohead amongst many other's, combining all their favourite parts from each and melding them all together to create their own unique alloy of alternative rock. The band formed in April 06 while guitarist Sean Mc Goldrick and vocalist Mark Phair have been writing songs for a number of years previous. Mc Goldrick previously played in numerous local circuit bands as a drummer. David Jordan with John Monagahan joined to complete the line-up on both Drums and Bass respectively while Mc Goldrick and Phair began reworking acoustic demos to full band songs adding newer songs along the way. Earlier in the year Bass Player John Monagahan departed and has since been replaced by Ronan McGrade. Despite their short history the band have already won a number of fans and admirers including record producer's Chris Sheldon (foo fighters, the pixies, feeder) (chrissheldon.co.uk) and Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers) whom have both expressed an interest to work with them and have received numerous positive reviews from local press including BBC's across the line.
