Bio

Elder Mason began on a four-track in a small bedroom in Seattle in 2006. Disenchanted with his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, J. Michael Jochum rented an Econoline, filling it with guitars, amps, organs, pianos… even some clothes, and made for then unknown Seattle. After getting a feel for the local scene, darting in and out of other bands, he began to write songs based on his classic rock upbringing in St. Louis: there was some Beatles, some ELO, some Pink Floyd all married with contemporary influences like the Flaming Lips and Wilco.

Craigslist was to thank for finding the right blend of musicians and personalities that now comprise the band. Matt Teske (guitar, vocals) joined the group after moving from Minnesota around the same time as Jochum. Kris Bulakowski (drums) came aboard after relocating from Connecticut and Joe Cable (bass) via Kansas City. With Jochum manning the keyboards and vocals, Elder Mason set up shop in a basement in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. The band has an epic, dense and lush quality, with blissful organs, raging fuzz guitars held together by bombastic drumming.

Their debut album, "The Seclusionist speaks...", has been recorded and will be mixed by Scott Colburn (Arcade Fire, Animal Collective, Feral Children) and will be released in the fall of 2008.

Currently, the band is in the studio with Seattle producer Mike Turpen...
