"Virtual Reality - How cool is That"

Filed Under: Excited About — By: Elke Nominikat

With music festival cancellations left and right, virtual reality might just be what the doctor has ordered! And if you’re brave enough to live in a big city like New York, with 8 million people, and 65.5 million tourists from all around the world visiting per year, you might just be also brave enough to come out to a truly spectacular event!

To find out more, read up from the artists themselves:

"Song Pick"

Electric Djinn aka Neptune Sweet creates highly appealing indie electronic songs that are grounded in low frequencies, programmed beats and topped off with virtual synths and processed vocals. While this might sound a bit too synthetic, the results are actually quite mesmerizing and emotional. With “Phoenix”, Electric Djinn seems to take us by the hand, leading us on an arpeggio-covered carpet deeper and deeper into the center of… a cave maybe? Or moments of our past? It is on us to decide where this sonic travel leads to but the journey is certainly worth the time spent because the track is gorgeous!

"Digital Archive"

Women of Noise is a digital archive of women and femme-aligned persons in noise, power electronics, post-punk, industrial, experimental, avant-garde, avant-pop, no wave, drone, shoegaze, outsider music, and other genres that are heavy, harsh, and eccentric. - Women of Noise

"Premiere | Chocolate Grinder"

into after the day’s lessons were done? Most probably went home to “ordinary” lives — dinner, television, some painting or sex perhaps — the difficult yet rewarding balance of passion and rest that defines the routines of most would-be artists who find themselves paid to do something not quite but sort of like art. However, assuredly, there were others for whom such daily doldrums never sufficed. Perhaps the real reason you weren’t allowed to take home your paper mache animal mask was that teacher needed it for the nightly ritual. Stranger creatures have walked among us, from Kesagake the Man Eater to Ming the Clam, so who are you to assume that Mr(s). Soandso went home to TV dinners and talk shows? But I digress.

Premiering below, the “Deer Xing” video was a year in the making and brought together an all female cast and crew, at the center of which was Electric Djinn a.k.a. Neptune Sweet, vocalist for Solilians and psychedelic enchantress for all mortal beings. I don’t really know what to make of it, except for better or worse it put the prior paragraph into my brain and on this page. Look both ways before you: - Tiny Mix Tapes

"Electric Djinn shares “Deer X-ing” video at Tiny Mix Tapes"

Electric Djinn is the part musical, part performance art project of Neptune Sweet, a new age artist who is based in New York, but derives influence from the many corners of her ever-expanding earth. For Neptune, Electric Djinn is a creative outlet for finding a balance between new age sound and the chaotic order of the world as she sees it. The interplay between these two elements and the incorporation of a holistic approach to music gives Electric Djinn its unique and striking sound; grounded in low frequencies, programmed beats, topped with virtual synths and processed vocals, layered in binaural beats, isochronic tones, and the sweet smell of the oceanic.

Watch Electric Djinn – “Deer X-ing”

A recent residency in Baler, Aurora of the Philippines gave rise to a number of different recordings for Neptune, as well as generated a lasting love of surfing liquid and sonic waves. While Neptune returns regularly to the Philippines to perform live and work with local artists, she also has weaved from her time there a collective tapestry of sonic landscapes that are captured in her recorded work. This can be seen in the video for “Deer X-ing,” a labor of love that took a year to bring to full completion and brought together the creative minds of Larilyn Sanchez, Vandana Jane and Sarah Kipp, who worked with Neptune to bring her vision into reality.

The strange journey seen in the video for “Deer X-ing” is only the beginning of the sonic and creative exploration that Electric Djinn has set out upon. Neptune looks to the future for more chances to move her art into as many spaces as possible–be it performance, videos, or a collection of recordings. - Vents Magazine
