"Stealing the Show: Electricity for Everybody!"

It was a great night for great new things. Electricity for Everybody--easily Edmonton's best new act--played to a packed house of indie kids at one of the city's most talked-about new venues, the ARTery on February 8th. Their set was one of those perfect moments: a new band, in a new place, playing great, new songs.

Firmly rooted in early and mid-nineties indie rock, E For E uses three guitars, giving them the luster of Built to Spill, noisier parts are reminiscent of Being There-era Wilco, and their stage presence is held together with the looseness of Pavement. But at the ARTery, behind a wall of guitars, drummer Tim Rechner's heroic snare sliced through the fourth wall and filled the room--cutting a hole in your chest.

The crowd was curious and anxious, inspecting the charm of the new venue and the art on the walls, and the band fed off the excitement generated by one of the most anticipated local shows in a long time. 0pening for the Whitsundays--Edmonton's latest national export, topping the CMJ charts and blowing crowds away at Pop Montreal--whose solid set met and surpassed expectations, Electricity for Everybody was the real focus of the night. lt's new bands this good that drag crowds out for local shows--even in Edmonton's coldest cold-snap--and it's new bands this good that make you forget the cold altogether.

Discography

The three songs in our EPK reflect the band's sensibility, and emerge out of an early incarnation of what has since become Electricity for Everybody!: a collaboration among members of Little Baby Cupcakes (which included Matthew and Darren) and This Civil Twilight (in which Mark and Duncan still play) that resulted in the 5 song e.p. "The Fake Mistake." These three songs capture the dynamics and spirit of our music.

EfE! aims to head into the studio some time in the coming months to record a full-length.

Bio

Formed just over a year ago, Electricity for Everybody! brings together musicians from a number of Edmonton bands -- Champion AB, No Hands, This Civil Twilight, The Maykings, Little Baby Cupcakes, and Prince Pounce. We've yet to record our music, but have played a number of shows at local clubs (such as the Velvet Underground), festivals (The Works), and art installations (The Apartment Show, Birch Heart's Good Intentions/Poor Traits show). Most recently, we opened for the Whitsundays on their Edmonton debut at The ARTery.

Our musical influences are wide-ranging -- from Palace and Nick Drake to Rapider Than Horsepower and Les Savy Fav. Lots of people say they hear Pavement at the heart of our music, which makes us all warm inside.
