At a crossroads between modern and traditional music, the melodies of El Gafla (The Caravan in Arabic) bring together the sounds of the shores of the Mediterranean with a touch of African groove and a spirit of Kasbah Rock.
With their new trumpeter, their set is even more festive, in a similar vein to Mano Negra or even Gnawa Diffusion. In French, Arabic or Kabyle, Karim is just as much at home singing melancholic tunes as songs of celebration and love in this invitation to travel and share, but he also takes time to appeal for lucidity and action.
On their first album which proved to be a great hit with the media, El Gafla invited Manu Chao to participate in a more Arabic version of Clandestino.
Since then, the group has performed in France and further afield, from Algeria to Kazakhstan and from the Czech Republic to Qatar .
Their new creations lead them, quite naturally, to record a new album to be released in autumn 2010. It's produced by the Mon Slip label belonging to Les Têtes Raides and is distributed by Warner.
