Bio
Eli-Rose is a 12 year old English/Australian hybrid who also likes to call New York home.
She's a boarder at a girls' College in Sydney's infamous Kings Cross.
Inspired after Eli-Rose met and watched Tina Weymouth perform with 'Talking Heads' she said "I'm going to be a bassplayer". And the very next day, she did. She was 8.
Eli-Rose's role models are inspiring women though the encouragement, diversity in musical guidance and influences she gets come from far and wide and across genres and generations.
Daughter of British guitarist Gary Sanford, Eli-Rose has played gigs since she could hold her first Jazz bass. When in the UK, she can be seen gigging with Gary and friends like drummer & producer Dave Ruffy & bassplayer Matthew Seligman. In Australia, Eli-Rose is a pivotal player in the St Vincent's College guitar ensemble and choir. At their request, Eli-Rose also accompanies & collaborates with other students and staff which she really enjoys.
Her 12th birthday was spent in New York as an invited performer (and the youngest by some 20 years!) at a 'Music For America' Election gig. As the evening had a political theme, she sang Junior Mervin's "Police and Thieves" made famous by The Clash - friends of her Dad's.
An emotive song by good friend Mary Lee Cortes (of 'Mary Lee's Corvette') "Give It To The Needy" showcased her range and musical abilities.
It was a resounding & impressive success and as one audience member said: "She kicked ass".
Indeed she does.
"Only One Me" was written by Eli-Rose on her return to boarding school after a serious illness which almost claimed her life (twice).
She says:'. . . it's about not being around and people trying to replace you- trying to live your life'.
Music is her first and natural love though Eli-Rose can also be found surfing, playing water polo and soccer when not playing music or songwriting.
She generally loves life - and lives it!
