Eva’s Song

Written By: Elisa Pemberton

On a grey September evening
A young father stares into the night
He’s thinking back to happy days
When the future looked so bright

Eva still looks so confused
When he explains that Mummy’s gone
To a better place called heaven
God grant him the strength to carry on

As the days and weeks passed by
He heard her crying late at night
Then he found the very thing
To help make everything all right

And he whispered to her...
Honey I know you’re sad and you’ve been crying
So I’ve brought you my favourite teddy bear
Just keep him close and you’ll feel better
And hold him just like this when you feel scared

Eva’s tear-stained face lit up
He gently brushed her tears away
He found peace in her contented smile
They’d face the future come what may

One Sunday morning after church
They went together to her grave
He laid her favourite flowers down
Eva soon ran off with a little wave

Bowing down for a quiet prayer
He felt the tears begin to fall
And suddenly unbeknownst to him
Her little hand in his so small

And she whispered...
Daddy I know you’re sad and you’ve been crying
So I’ve brought you my favourite teddy bear
Just keep him close and you’ll feel better
And hold him just like this when you feel scared

Through a mist of tears he managed a small smile
And he tousled her blonde hair
Then she cuddled up beside him
Eva and her teddy bear

Eva and her teddy bear
Eva and her teddy bear

Bittersweet goodbye

Written By: Elisa Pemberton

A sun-kissed rainbow
Set in a clear blue sky
Is the picture you painted for me
Before you whispered goodbye

And now I’m left here
With storm clouds building in my heart
Waiting for the rain to come
Holding back tears cos we’re apart

Words left unspoken lie thick between us
The only glimpse of truth shines in your eyes
Could this be the beginning of forever?
Or am I entangled in my own sweet web of lies?

And I’ll go on loving you forever
No longer see my way ahead
I look up to heaven for some answers
And see you smiling, watching over me instead

Some say if you love someone, you’ve got to let ‘em go
And I realise now these words are true
I see how happy you are without me
The hard part now is learning to let go of you

And if you ask I’ll say I’m doing fine
I’ll wish you well in all you do
And while it still hurts when I see you with another
I put on my happy face and smile for you

And I’ll go on loving you forever
Each brand new day trying to find my way ahead
I look up to heaven for some answers
And fading away you’re smiling down at me instead
