Regarding her recognition for the 2016 Macy's iHeartRadio Rising Star competition, Lyons said, "It was so amazing. I remember being e-mailed to apply to the program, and to be selected in the Top 25 was incredible, and then to enter the second round with the Top 5, was so great. I ended up being at No. 3 which was incredible, and it shows the dedication of my fan-base. I had people that were messaging me that were voting every single day. It speaks to the power of the people that believed in me and were a part of this journey. I am so grateful for the experience and for this opportunity."

"HOW SINGER ELIZABETH LYONS USES BITLY TO TRACK HER MUSIC"

This week, we sat down to chat with independent artist and country singer, Elizabeth Lyons, about her music career and how she’s been using Bitly to track her work.

A Chicago native, Elizabeth moved to Nashville a few years ago to finish up her college education at Vanderbilt University and jumpstart her career in music. During her senior year of college, she released her self-titled debut EP, currently an Album All-Time Bestseller Under $8 on iTunes. Elizabeth now runs her own record label and publishing company out of her apartment in Nashville.

Here’s her story:

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU AND YOUR JOURNEY SO FAR.

I’ve always loved music and performing, and by way of this I ended up in Nashville. I was down in Nashville interning at a music publishing company and saw what they were doing on social media and I said, “I can make this happen.” My parents have always said, “if you are going to take a hold of your career you have to do it yourself and work really hard.”

I’ve been doing the music thing my whole life, but I didn’t really start to take it seriously until senior year of college when my first album went up on the charts. Since then, I’ve been running my own record label, Roar Records LLC, and my own publishing company, Elizabeth Lyons Music Publishing, all from my couch and apartment in Nashville.

HOW DO YOU USE BITLY AS AN ENTREPRENEUR?

I call myself an entrepreneur in addition to a musician. It’s true that I spend a lot of time doing music stuff, like writing my own songs and playing shows, but there’s actually a lot more that goes into booking the shows, the travel, and building marketing campaigns.

Also, anyone who knows me knows that I tend to talk nonstop. This is especially the case online, in my tweets and in my other social posts. My little sister always says “you need to keep it shorter.” My thing is that I want to stay true to who I am offline and online, but you can only use so many characters on Twitter. With Bitly, I’m able to say what I want to say since I can shorten my links and get some characters back.

The best thing is that you can also see how many clicks each piece of content is getting. Bitly links are more powerful than regular links, because I know if people are engaged or not.

For example, when I released my first album, I used Bitly to track performance. It was neat to be able to see that someone in New York clicked it. Being in the beginning phases of my career, this kind of feedback is extremely valuable. I’m always looking at where my fanbase is when I’m booking my shows. I also look to see which posts are working so I can continue to post similar content.

Elizabeth Lyons 2

Recently, for Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star Top 5 contest, I customized the back half of a Bitly link: bit.ly/elvote. This was great because it added a layer of professionalism – everyone is familiar with Bitly. It also makes it much easier for people to remember the link and pass it on to their friends.

WHAT DOES CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE MEAN TO YOU?

For me and my band, customer experience is about making people feel good and building relationships with each fan we meet. Our goal is that, for the 30 minutes or hour that we have with the audience, they can just escape from the world and the reality of life and troubles.

BITLY IS ALL ABOUT USING THE LINK TO BRING CHANNELS TOGETHER AND ULTIMATELY, BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER. HOW DO YOU SEE THAT IN YOUR WORK?

Music is a really powerful thing. I have the ability to make people happy which is amazing.

One of the things I often tell my band is that at any given show we play, it’s not about how many people are there. It’s not about how great we played. It’s about how it makes people feel.

We have the ability to make people smile and to give them big hugs. More people need love and joy and I’m able to do that. You’ll find that in all of my songs there’s that little piece of hope. A lot of my music is fun and upbeat.

I always try to give back in everything I do. I have people who have been supportive from the very beginning. From my teachers growing up, to my family members who encouraged me to follow my dream, to the fans who have come out to watch me play. I also have a band that’s been with me for the past two to three years.

I’m lucky to be doing what I love to do and that’s the best thing about it. But I can only do so much on my own – it takes a village to do all of this.

WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS DO YOU MOST FREQUENTLY UPDATE? DO YOU USE BITLY ACROSS THESE CHANNELS?

I use Bitly across YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. I even use Bitly links in the YouTube description of my videos, because it is good to keep content consistently branded.

I ASSUME A LOT OF YOUR FANS ARE MILLENNIALS? HOW DO YOU THINK SOCIAL MEDIA/TECHNOLOGY HAS IMPACTED THE WAY YOU CONNECT WITH THEM?

I think it’s always important to be true to who you are. On social, I always show a mix of my music but also my life. My family, they’re such a big part of my life. I’m so grateful for them. You’ll see a lot of them as well as my music on my accounts since I like to incorporate both worlds.

Recently, with Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star Top Five, we did a live streaming event with an app called YouNow. It was so great that fans could tune in to follow along in that moment. I think people want to get to know you as a person, and especially in the music industry, that’s what they buy into. Of course the music has to be good, but that connection and how you make them feel at a meet and greet or during a show is just as important.

My favorite part of this journey is seeing and getting to know people and hearing their stories. My fans always become my friends because they get to know me and I get to know them as well. For example, I can see on Twitter that @Islandboy88 is in the Florida Keys this weekend. I can see on Instagram that @ChristiCummings is going to be at my show in 8 hours and then I can thank her afterwards.

Memories are the beautiful thing on social. I wouldn’t be able to be an independent artist without social media.

HOW DO YOU THINK THE INCREASING NUMBER OF SOCIAL CHANNELS AND DEVICES HAS CHANGED THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?

It’s been interesting to see how it’s evolved. For instance, Facebook used to be really popular and now it’s more Instagram and Snapchat. iTunes used to be the only thing that really existed now there’s Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music… Whether you’re a consumer or an independent artist, there are more resources than ever to learn from, engage with and produce music on.

For those in the entertainment industry – keep an eye on the changing trends, but make sure that in all your social media efforts that your voice and branding stays consistent across each channel.

ANY ADVICE FOR ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS AND MUSICIANS?

You have to have patience, perseverance and persistence.

It takes time to build up your presence. You have to think outside the box and be creative, but also be authentic and say what you feel sometimes. Be in the moment. Live in the moment.

WHAT’S YOUR BIG MUSIC DREAM?

I’m living my music dream right now! My band and I have been on the road touring. We recently played Country Jam Colorado, Taste of Country Music Festival, CountryFest, Country Stampede, Jam in the Valley and Summerfest. Opening for artists who I admire and look up to like Kenny Chesney, Jake Owen, Hunter Hayes, Sam Hunt, Frankie Ballard, Eric Paslay, Chase Rice, Old Dominion, and many more.

The title track for my new EP ‘I’ve Never’ was recently selected as apart of the very prestigious and exclusive Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star Contest. I placed in the Top 3 which was amazing! The fans were so dedicated and truly made this happen. It was an incredible experience working with Macy’s and iHeartRadio, seeing the power they have across the nation. Friends all over the country were hearing my name and my song in Macy’s stores and on iHeartRadio stations.
One of my BIG music dreams is to play the Grand Ole Opry. I’ve had the opportunity to go back stage a few times and its SO magical. I get goose pumps and super emotional thinking of my Great Grandpa Al who used to listen to every show and always dreamed of playing on the stage. Another big dream is to win a CMA, ACM Award and Grammy.

To keep up-to-date with Elizabeth’s music, touring and other adventures, follow her on Twitter. - BITLY

Day 2 of the 2016 Taste of Country Music Festival was jam-packed with country party tunes and uptempo sets from some of the genre’s big stars.
William Michael Morgan opened ToC Fest’s second day with a set of more traditional country tunes, but from there, the party kept going all day long with Old Dominion, the Swon Brothers, Eric Paslay and Frankie Ballard … and, of course, Kenny Chesney. On the Bud Light Stage, Elizabeth Lyons, McKenna Faith and Keith Walker entertained festivalgoers in between sets on the main Ram Guts & Glory Stage.
Readers can flip through the photo gallery above to see some sweet shots from Day 2 of ToC Fest 2016. The festival runs through Sunday (June 12), with Jake Owen closing out the event as the headliner.

Lyons is a Midwest native who said she was excited to share the stage with some big names. Lyons is originally from Illinois, where her grandparents had a farm that has been in their family for 80 years.

She became a Badger, attending UW-Madison before transferring to Vanderbilt University in Nashville to pursue music.

"Being raised in the Midwest, I always was told to never give up, and to really have patience, perseverance, and persistence," Lyons said. "I think that's cool that I've been able to apply my Midwestern values to this industry, and it's really important to have those characteristics."

"Elizabeth Lyons Releases “#PARTYRULES” Music Video Today"

NASHVILLE, TN - (January 12, 2015) - Country songstress, Elizabeth Lyons, is excited to release the new music video for her single, "#PartyRules". The video, which was directed by Jon Chema and produced by Joel Hartz, is currently #1 on iTunes Country Music Videos chart and #6 on the iTunes Top Music Videos chart for all genres.

The track, written by Lyons and Canadian-based Dan Swinimer, charted #55 on the MusicRow chart last week. The video shows Lyons and friends whisking off to a private location for a feel-good barn party where Lyons lays down the rules on what makes for a party to remember. "#PartyRules" reflects Lyons’ work hard-play hard motto in life.

“Knowing my last music video charted #8 on iTunes, I really wanted to give my fans who have been so supportive this year something special & make the "#PartyRules" song come to life," Lyons said.

A recent graduate of Vanderbilt University, Lyons wanted the extras in the music video to include friends, fans, and students from Vanderbilt University and Belmont University.

"I asked friends around Nashville if we could borrow their coolers, empty kegs, bbq’s, ping pong tables, etc. I loaded all the props up in my car and drove to the shoot at Terian Equestrian Farms with my Mom, Aunt Elizabeth & Uncle Manny."

Paige Jeans, one of Elizabeth's favorite brands, supplied some of the clothing for the video.

“Jeep!” and “#PartyRules” are the anticipated follow-ups to Lyons' highly successful self-titled EP (all six songs co-written by Lyons), which was released in November 2012. Both songs have been received well by fans, which was shown by the two singles charting on iTunes right along with many label driven singles.

The debut EP charted at #42 on the National Country Album iTunes chart in less than 24 hours and remained in the top 200 for a week, and on December 6, 2012, the EP debuted as #10 on Billboard’s Heatseekers East North Central chart. Lyons has sold an impressive 75,000 downloads of her music online to date and has had over 8,000 streams on Sound Cloud, which is impressive for an indie artist!

Multi-talented, Lyons plays both piano and guitar during her performances and is currently gearing up for a full schedule of touring this spring and summer. Lyons has already had the honor of opening for many Country greats, including: Luke Bryan, Cole Swindell, Eli Young Band, Chase Rice, Dustin Lynch, Joe Nichols, Thomas Rhett, Randy Houser and Phil Vassar.

An amazing singer/songwriter and artist, Lyons has shown her smart entrepreneurial business side and knows how to effectively market her music and ultimately sell records. She is the full package: a true emerging leader in the music industry, who most importantly, loves her fans and knows how to connect with them. - Daily Country

"Following Dreams: New Trier grad finishes second country EP"

After releasing her first self-titled EP in 2012, Winnetka native and up-and-coming country music star Elizabeth Lyons toured the U.S. to make a name for herself. That was only the beginning her career.

She’s back in the music charts now after recently releasing her second EP titled “I’ve Never.”

“I think with being on the road, you understand what works on the road. You know what songs people like,” said the 2009 New Trier grad on her experience after releasing her first EP. “Talking to them at meet and greets, you just get to know the fans. Most importantly, I’ve learned who I am.”

When she returned to her apartment on Music Row in Nashville to write her second EP, Lyons focused on “being honest and confident about who I am. What do I want to hear?”

She then collaborated with “Nashville’s best-known” for the “I’ve Never” album, she said. It was produced by Brad Hill, and Jason Massey, Dan Swinimer, Heidi Raye and Georgia Thomas helped write it.

The sophomore EP started on the Top 50 iTunes list and was a result of a PledgeMusic campaign called Lyons Pride. The campaign connected her with fans, whether it was a performance in their backyard or a Skype guitar lesson.

“It was a great opportunity to connect with fans and make an album that connects to them,” Lyons said.

The EP, which has six tracks, is available now on iTunes, Spotify and her website, www.elizabethlyonsmusic.com.

“It’s been going really well,” she said of the release. “I wanted people to generally love it and they do.”

Since it’s been available, there’s one song that’s gone the most viral: “I’ve Never,” the title track.

“People are tweeting about it and instagramming it,” Lyons said about the track, which speaks on her musical journey.

“I never thought I’d be following my dreams, releasing a second album, opening for artists who I grew up listening to and have loved and inspired me, or that I would fall in love,” she stated in a press release.

Promoting the EP is next on Lyons’ agenda, as her schedule is already filling up for coming months. She will be touring, visiting Country Music Association education chapters and even making a stop back home.

Her inspiration

A turning point in Lyons’ career came when she met one of her idols: Luke Bryan.

Two years ago, she was pulling up in her car — U-haul attached and all — to one of the biggest music festivals, Country USA in Wisconsin, where she was opening for the country star. She parked next to Bryan’s “perfect tour bus,” she said, just when he was getting out.

“My mom was like ‘That’s Luke Bryan’ and we went up and talked to him,” Lyons said. “He was generous with his time and kind.”

Lyons explained to the star she saw him years ago when he was opening for Kenny Chesney at Solider Field — just like she was opening for him. It must have stuck with him, she said, because he gave her a shout-out during his stage time.

“I got off the road and came back to Nashville. When I was writing songs, I kept thinking about how he’s exactly who he is. I wanted to find someone like Luke Bryan,” she said.

With help from songwriter Dan Swinimer, they pieced together “Luke Bryan,” one of her latest hits on the EP.

Back on the North Shore

“I love the little things of coming home. I’m so lucky my hometown has been so good to me.”

So said Lyons, who returned to judge Winnetka’s Got Talent on March 15. The experience of seeing local children so passionate about their talents was heartwarming, she said.

“It’s really cool to be reminded how powerful music is,” she added. “I was inspired by the talent.”

But between recording her EP and touring for shows, Lyons doesn’t always have much time in the North Shore. It’s here, though, that she credits her success to.

Early believers like the owner of Joe’s Bar in Chicago and Summerfest’s CEO helped discover her talent and earn more high-profile gigs, like singing the “National Anthem” at Wrigley Field.

“I attribute most of my success to my hometown.” - Winnetka Talk/Wilmette Beacon/Glencoe Anchor

"Elizabeth Lyons – Self Titled"

Hailing from just outside of Chicago, Elizabeth Lyons can’t lay claim to being a small-town southern girl. That being said, Country Music was never too far. As a youngster, she would spend summers at her grandparents’ house in rural Iowa, where the musical menu included such legends as Hank Williams, so the music definitely made an impact on her.

You can tell it on her EP. Decidedly in the modern-country vein, Lyons knows how to milk f the most out a contemporary sounding ballad, with two of the best cuts on this EP including the dreamy and romantic pop-ish melody of “Everything Tonight” and the beautiful “Forgive And Forget,” where she handles the emotional nuances with no problem at all.

She also shows her youthful vitality and spunk on several occasions with “Go Girl” and “Fighting Over Me” both putting her playful side on full display. Though, at least on this EP, the ballads are where she shines the strongest. That being said, I believe we are going to get an ample opportunity to hear more of what she can do in the future. She’s simply that good!

"A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit North Shore"

When Winnetka native Elizabeth Lyons went off to college, she planned to spend long hours in the library, never realizing that two years later she would be spending equal amounts of time in the recording studio. But, after an internship in Nashville. Sparked a renewed passion for music and singing, the singer revisited her country roots. Sheridan Road caught up with the budding star, currently finishing up her senior year at Vanderbilt University, while subsequently releasing her first self-titled EP, to hear what it’s like being a North Shore native south of the Mason-Dixon line.

On how it all began:

I’ve always sung since I was little. My mom says that I would sing in my crib, every morning. I started singing in church choir at KUC [Kenilworth Union Church]. My first experience with a solo was for the [KUC Christmas Pageant]. I was cast as one of the Three Kings, and [my part] had a solo. Then I began doing musical theater with the Winnetka Children’s Theatre at Winnetka Community House. From there, I did musical theater at New Trier. I was in [choir] all four years at New Trier and I’ve played classical piano since kindergarten. I danced at Fisher Dance in Wilmette, so I’ve always kind of done music and types of performing my entire life.

My freshman year of college, when I was at University of Wisconsin-Madison, I came down to Nashville with my dad and interviewed with a bunch of music industry companies. I ended up interning at this music publishing company called Roots Three Music—they’re a co-venture of Ole Music Publishers. I was lucky enough to have a boss, Denny Carr, who guided me through the music business, and that’s when I kind of began to realize that I had a chance at taking the “artists’ route.” While I was interning, I established friendships with some of the writers and they would try to distract me from doing my work. As it turned out, one of them became my producer [for the current EP] and his name is Matt Nolan. I realized I needed to be in Nashville [full-time] to pursue my dreams, so I applied to Vanderbilt, got in, and transferred.

On the North Shore native’s country roots:

My mom is from Mason City, Iowa, and my family would always drive up to my mom’s hometown; she owns a farm there. We’d pull up to my great-grandpa Al’s house, and he had built his own house, with his own hands and had lived there most of his life. I remember he’d always listen to country music; when I was there in the summers, he’d be listening to Hank Williams and I’d be hanging out, listening, eating a bologna sandwich with him. Those summers were where country music was really instilled in me. One thing that my Grandpa Al taught me was that country music is a feeling. You don’t necessarily need to be from the country in order to “get” country music. The songs tell stories of love, loss, sadness, and strength. Country music has always been a part of my roots.

One of the ideas that I have for a song is called “Sheridan Road.” I have a whole list of ideas on my phone and on my laptop. That is definitely a song I need to write. When I was picking out songs for my EP, there’s this song that I love and I was really strongly considering to ask the songwriters to change the title to “Sheridan Road,” but if I’m lucky enough to do another [EP], I’ll write “Sheridan Road!”

On the songwriting process:

Each songwriting session, or what we call it, a co-write, is very different. It just depends on whom you’re writing with. I’m going to Vanderbilt and just living a regular college life, and so everything around me inspires me, so I kind of have a lot of ideas that [Matt] says are unique. Usually how it works is that I will come with a few ideas or a funny story, and we just go through them and then pick the ones that feel right. He usually strums on the guitar or plays the piano and we get a good groove going and I start writing a song around this [initial] idea. Then it just builds from there, whether we get the first chorus, or the first verse. It varies from song to song. It’s the most amazing experience—you know writing and finishing the song. When you walk out of a good write, you know.

On her first EP:

I released Elizabeth Lyons EP and I’ve never done anything else on iTunes. I wanted everything [about the EP] to represent me, so it is like my friends and I hanging out. There are little quirky things about the EP, for instance, [on the track] “Go Girl,” I was doing something funny, playing around with it, and I ended up saying “You go, girl!” during the recording session, and Matt ended up throwing [that phrase] in at the end of the song! It was a cool way of showing who I am and my personality. I basically wrote stories about my life, and I hope that through them I can share some common experiences and that listeners can get that feeling that my Grandpa Al always talked about.

"ALBUM REVIEW: ELIZABETH LYONS"

ALBUM REVIEW: Elizabeth Lyons “Elizabeth Lyons”
Posted on June 18 2013 by Donna Block

It’s no wonder Elizabeth Lyons co-wrote every song on her self-titled debut EP, as all are based on her life. The EP charted on iTunes at #42 within hours of its release last November.

On Everything Tonight, her current single, she remarked, “I believe every boy that has made me laugh, cry or made me want to throw something at him in order to get his attention… has come into my life for a reason. Things happen the way they are supposed to.” The single’s lyrics are simple and complex at the same time. The message is clear, the heart fragile. We’re all alone tonight … Just us and a million stars … I’m giving ya my heart … Boy it’s yours to take … Here goes nothing … And maybe everything tonight ….

The tune was co-written with Matt Nolen (who also produced the EP) and Ryan Tyndell (co-writer of songs including Eric Church’s Springsteen and Chief, Dierks Bentley’s Home, and Clay Walker’s She Won’t Be Lonely Long). The video directed by Mason Dixon (producer of Jake Owen’s Barefoot Blue Jean Night and The One That Got Away, and Jana Kramer’s Whiskey videos).

Elizabeth grew up in a suburb north of Chicago (I grew up in a suburb south of the city) where country music played on only one station (sadly that would be one more than I remember growing up). It all changed come summertime when the family drove to rural Iowa, to her mother’s family farm (I spent summers visiting my dad’s aunt and uncle on their farm in Deep River!). There she listened to Hank Williams blaring from the radio, eating bologna sandwiches with Grandpa.

“Growing up listening to country music, I remember running through Grandpa’s garden filled with different colored irises completely natural and free. I could sing at the top of my lungs and no one would interrupt me. I could play on Grandma’s upright piano and I’d always have an audience. Looking back Great Grandpa Al was a working man, who honestly expressed his joys and sorrows… he was real, he was sincere. ?He taught me country music is a feeling. It’s the songs that tell the stories…of love and loss and sadness and strength. And believing in God. And sometimes you know you have nothing left but faith and trust.”

Also on the EP is Boston (co-written with Heather Longstaffe and Heidi Raye), a song about taking chances, trusting in promises, and following your heart with a one-way ticket in your hand. The recent Vanderbilt University graduate shows her fun, playful side on Boys In Every Zipcode and Fightin’ Over Me. Add Go Girl and Forgive And Forget and you have, according to her biography, ‘a blend of tough-girl Southern sass, meets catchy pop songstress.’ - GOT COUNTRY

"Interview with Elizabeth Lyons"

Lamitschka: Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Elizabeth Lyons: My lyrics are universal. Every girl falls in love on vacation (Boston), chases boys (Go Girl), (Boys in Every Zipcode) takes a chance on love (Everything Tonight) and has heartbreak, (Forgive and Forget). Whether you live in Nashville, Tennesee, USA or Munich, Germany, we are all the same when it comes to love.

Lamitschka: What is your latest CD and how's it doing? Single? Etc.

Elizabeth Lyons: The debut self-titled Elizabeth Lyons EP I released in November 2012. The EP charted #42 on the national country album iTunes charts in less than 24 hours, remained in the top 200 for a week, and continues to remain on the iTunes charts 400-700 range and iTunes' Albums Under $8 "Recent Best Sellers" and "All-Time Best Sellers" for seven months and counting. On December 6, 2012, the EP debuted as #10 on Billboard’s Heatseekers East North Central chart. Between November 11th and June 20th, I’ve sold over 60,000 songs on iTunes. So exciting! I’ve been interning at a music publishing company the past few years and been taking notes on the to do’s and what not to do’s in the music industry, but as an independent country artist I’m always learning as I go, just trying to spread the word as much as I can about the EP through networking.

Lamitschka: Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Elizabeth Lyons: I co-wrote all six songs on the EP. Every songwriting session is different, but one of my favorites was writing my debut single and music video called “Everything Tonight“. I had the privilege of writing “Everything Tonight“ with my producer Matt Nolen (who wrote “So What If I Do“ by Trace Adkins), and Grammy-nominated songwriter Ryan Tyndell (who wrote “Springsteen“ by Eric Church and “Bourbon in Kentucky“ by Dierks Bentley) You can find the songs on my website www.elizabethlyonsmusic.com, iTunes, Spotify, and Youtube http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ8mOpJTaQHb3Cobm6xpnzUyjsg4QHG_n !

Lamitschka: Please tell us about the songs on your album (influences, etc).

Elizabeth Lyons: Everyday, Everyone, Everything! I write mostly about what’s going on in my life, but I love LOVE, so I always get inspired by my friends! One of my favorite things is to find out how people who are dating/married met. Haha! Everything is so meant to be. I totally believe that. Also movies I’m obsessed with; classic Hollywood movies and romantic comedies. If you hang around me enough you’ll notice I’m always like That would be a great movie scene and write it down.
The songs on the album:
1. Everything Tonight comes from an assortment of memories, it's about being with someone and you kind of give into them, but you're reluctant to give away your heart because you've had your heart broken before. You realize you just have to let fate take control and if you're meant to be together you will be together. You're saying, "here goes nothing and maybe everything tonight". I just believe it's all in God's hands. I've come to realize sometimes you just have to not try to control things and know everything is meant to be!
I'm still learning about relationships and boys but it’s a song about knowing you bring something to the table that’s different then the person you're with, hence "I am the rhythm and you are the rhyme".
2. Go Girl: I grew up loving Shania Twain and The Spice Girls and I love Girl Power songs! …its super funny because this song is my Grandpa’s favorite. Anyways, when I was writing, I was writing it about my friend who was mad at a boy & I said to her, “He’s had his chance if you ask me, he don’t deserve you, never has,” but then I realized this is totally about my boy life too haha! But its also about life in general, like “YOLO…it’s a big world and it ain’t gonna stop.” I live my life by this, always play hard and work hard, def did that in college hehe! The ending is my favorite part because I have a quirky random part of my personality.

3. Fightin’ Over Me: It’s like boys come after you when you least expect it, and when one starts to like you and the other sees that, then all of sudden they’re interested. Love is so complex! It’s like I used to have no one interested, now they’re fightin over me… what?!

4. One of my favorite songs to sing is Boston. I love Boston. I love the piano because I grew up playing classical piano for 13 years. I also grew up auditioning for the 15 musicals I was in and I always seemed to do ballads well…probably because I’ve had my heart broken by so many boys haha! Live and learn!

"Elizabeth Lyons EP Review"

I can’t believe I am just now getting this review up because I’ve had Elizabeth’s EP for a while now and actually was not reviewing albums or EP’s at the time I received her music. Now, I got a train rolling that I can’t seem to stop with these reviews and I am very glad I ran across Elizabeth’s EP and get to share my thoughts with y’all.

To start, I have embedded the playlist of the entire Elizabeth Lyons EP below in case you want to stop reading my rambling now and listen to some great music.

1. “Everything Tonight”

I’m giving you my heart, boy it’s yours to take. Here goes nothing. This is a solid pick to open the EP in my opinion because it has that in between vibe of not too poppy but not too slow at the same time. The listener immediately can feel what Elizabeth is about and how her voice will translate to the lyrics in her music.

2. “Go Girl”

I love the opening riff and it plays throughout the song. This is a very catchy song and I already know as soon as I show it to my girlfriend, I’m going to hear it all the time because it will become a favorite of hers.

3. “Fightin’ Over Me’

The sassy side of Elizabeth comes out in this tune with the lyrics, I know I shouldn’t like it but I think I kind of like it, all this fightin’ over me. This is a really clever song and I know a lot of girls who can relate this one. I mean who doesn’t want guys (or girls) to fight over them?

4. “Boston”

This could be a song on country radio right now. There is absolutely no difference in this and many of Taylor Swift’s songs except for the fact that I really like this song! Awesome melody and Elizabeth shows off her vocals. The hook is catchy and well written.

5. “Boys In Every Zipcode”

I can’t say I can relate to “Boys In Every Zipcode” as a guy haha, but I know a ton of girls who will absolutely love this song. I can already see them dancing around in a group singing this tune at the top of their lungs!

6. “Forgive & Forget”

This is a perfect song to round out what is a very fun EP to listen to. Elizabeth is able to shift to a more serious song and do so without losing solid vocals and the lighthearted feel of all six songs.

Conclusion:

I am always amazed and blessed at the quality music I get to review on a daily basis. This a wonderful EP, with songs for all kinds of people, but I truly see Elizabeth gaining A LOT of loyal girls following her like the Swifties. Maybe we can call them The Lions or play off the Lyons name somehow, but regardless she is going to be successful and y’all should pick up the EP now!

"Elizabeth Lyons not taking success for granted"

She’s in her 20s, but country music singer/songwriter Elizabeth Lyons knows her mom still occasionally tosses and turns at night, worrying about her little girl.

“I had been in Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri in less than 24 hours, and both my mom and my credit card company were concerned about me,” laughs the up-and-comingsinger-songwriter. “It can be hard to keep track of me these days.”
Indeed, with a guitar in her passenger seat and an endless array of dreams travelling around in her head, Lyons is living the life of an independent country music artist trying to make her name known in an ever-changing genre.

“There is nothing better than being in the car all summer getting feedback about my music,” says Lyons, who is currently visiting a long list of small-market radio stations to support the current single and music video for her song “Everything Tonight.”

“I even gave the girl at Subway who was making my sandwich yesterday my card. It’s all about trying to spread the word and creating a bigger story.”

The foundation for her dream of a career in music was in fact laid right here on the North Shore. Raised on a mix of classical piano lessons, church choirs and theatrical shows as a member of the Children’s Theatre of Winnetka, it wasn’t until a bit later that country music began to take hold in the life of the 2009 New Trier Township High School graduate.
“My mom is from a small town in Iowa, so every time we would visit my grandma or my great grandpa, they would be listening to Hank Williams or Patsy Cline,” says Lyons, who will come home to play Joe’s Bar on Aug. 24. “Yet, it wasn’t until an old boyfriend gave me this mix CD of music that had country artists like Tim McGraw and Lonestar on it that I realized just how much I loved all types of country music, other than just Taylor Swift.”

While her long blonde locks and strong determination may remind many of a young Swift, Lyons says she is following the path of a slew of country music rising stars, most notably Illinois’ own Brett Eldredge.

“Everyone has their own path, but Brett Eldredge is one of those artists that has shown how you can stay true to yourself,” says Lyons, who graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville this past spring. “His new album truly reflects his personality, which is exactly what I want to do.”

In the past year, Lyons has begun seeing glimpses of success. She has sold more than 60,000 downloads of her music on iTunes, and her latest music video for “Everything Tonight” made it to No. 8 on iTunes Top Country Music Videos chart.

“It’s been a really wild ride,” she says. “I mean, last fall I walked out of class and got a text I was charting on the National Country Album iTunes charts. I never thought I would chart at all. Now it’s about building on that success.”

Building on that success means Lyons will be spending a lot more time in her car, with her ever-present To Do list lying on the passenger seat.

“I want to get my song on SiriusXM The Highway and I want to get my video on CMT,” she says enthusiastically. “I have a timeline in my mind, but I know you can’t control time. I’m just trying to live in the moment.”

"Disclaimer: Finding Songs of Substance"

All the stars are twinkling, but only a few are burning brightly. By and large, this is a stack of perfectly acceptable country singles. They’re all professionally crafted and designed for radio playlists. They are also mostly lightweight. The exceptions belong to Dierks Bentley and Kellie Pickler, both of whom are performing songs of substance. They battled for Disc of the Day, with Bentley’s relentless sonic production giving him the edge. The other exceptional platter belongs to our DisCovery Award winner, Elizabeth Lyons. Her self-titled EP came out last year and has reportedly sold well as an iTunes phenomenon. With zero press, publicity or promotion, Lyons has already sold more than 30,000 songs. Now the recent Vanderbilt University graduate is releasing her first single and video from the project. Get ready to have your country-pop ears pinned back.

"Op-Ed: Elizabeth Lyons deserves to become the next country superstar"

Rising country singer Elizabeth Lyons is one of those artists that deserves to be played more on contemporary country radio stations due to her immense talent.

Lyons either writes or co-writes all of her songs and she films the best female music videos in the modern country genre. Her breakthrough EP consisted of five stellar tracks that could vie any female artist on the radio such as her lead single "Everything Tonight," the catchy "Fightin' Over Me" and the bittersweet ballad "Boston," proving her wide range as a singer-songwriter.

Lyons' vocals are refreshing and warm, reminiscent of Taylor Swift meets Kellie Pickler meets Kimberly Perry from The Band Perry.
This summer, Lyons released two of her singles digitally and they caught the attention of Digital Journal, placing her song "Jeep!" in the "Top Summer Anthem Country Songs," and her single "#PartyRules" in the "Top 5 Country Songs by New Female Artists" list.
The Verdict
While country radio only seems to be playing two female artists at the moment (Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert), they ought to make room for more Elizabeth Lyons. She has done everything independently, yet she is able to captivate thousands doing so, ranging from music critics to fans to her peers in the industry.

Both songs loved & purchased by fans which was shown by the two singles both charting on iTunes right along with many label driven singles. Lyons’ work hard-play hard motto and love of life shine through on the new tracks. Multi-talented she plays both piano and guitar in her performances differentiating her from many of her country female counterparts.

“Jeep!” and “#PartyRules” are the anticipated follow-ups to Lyons’ highly successful self-titled EP (all six songs co-written by Lyons), which was released in November 2012. The debut EP was an All-Time Best Seller under $8 on iTunes and continues to remain on the National iTunes Albums chart. The EP charted at #42 on the National Country Album iTunes chart in less than 24 hours and remained in the top 200 for a week, and on December 6, 2012, the EP debuted as #10 on Billboard’s Heatseekers East North Central chart.

Lyons’ debut single, “Everything Tonight,” which she co-wrote in 2012 with producer Matt Nolen and Grammy-nominated songwriter Ryan Tyndell, charted #96 on the MusicRow chart also on iTunes. The video for the track, which was directed by Mason Dixon, (who produced Jake Owen’s “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” and “The One That Got Away,”) charted at #8 on iTunes Top Country Music Videos chart and #18 on iTunes Top Videos chart for all genres. “Everything Tonight” has been played on Sirius XM Channel 56 The Highway On the Horizon. Featured as a Top 30 song of the week. Lyons has sold over 75,000 downloads of her music online to date and has had over 8,000 streams on Sound Cloud, which is impressive for an indie artist! While an amazing singer/songwriter/artist she has shown her smart entrepreneurial business side that effectively knows how to market her music and ultimately sell records. She is the full package: a true emerging leader in the music industry. Most importantly, loves and connects to her fans. - Music Row

"Review: Elizabeth Lyons takes country by storm in 'Party Rules' video"

Country sensation Elizabeth Lyons is back with her rocking new music video for her single "Party Rules" and it is a smash hit.

Her music video peaked at No. 4 on the iTunes all-genre music video charts, as well as No. 1 on the iTunes country music video charts. It was directed by Jon Chema and produced by Joel Hartz. It was filmed at Terian Farms Event Center.
"Party Rules" was co-written by Lyons and Dan Swinimer, and it received a rave review from Digital Journal.
The video is slightly reminiscent of Danielle Bradbery's "Young in America," but with a more country-rock edge to it, where the listener can recall Lindsay Ell, yet another talented female country singer-songwriter. Lyons shows her fans and viewers how to have a good time, and she nails the vocals doing so.
The Verdict
Just when you thought that Elizabeth Lyons could not top herself with her "Everything Tonight" video, she proves her fans wrong again. What makes her stand out by a mile is that she has been doing everything independently, and that is quite impressive, to be that young, talented and successful on her own. This video is a substantial indication that 2015 should be a very big year for Lyons, and rightfully so. She deserves an A rating for a job well done on this video clip.

"Elizabeth Lyons"

Patience, Persistence, and Perseverance…those key traits have taken Elizabeth Lyons a long way, from a girl growing up on the shores of Lake Michigan just north of Chicago, to her current path on the road to country stardom. The words first appeared on the sweatshirt she received after landing a coveted spot on the varsity tennis team at her large, competitive public high school and quickly became her mantra, and they’ve served her well as she’s made her way through graduating from Vanderbilt University to a career as a successful independent singer-entrepreneur. Anyone who has met the bubbly, upbeat blonde would definitely agree with the persistence part – Elizabeth really doesn’t possess the word can’t in her vocabulary – and that quality has no doubt served her well in her determination to become a new star on the country scene. You could also add Passion to that list as well, since she possesses that in spades, especially for the music she grew up listening to and loving as a Midwestern kid.

“I can’t remember a time I wasn’t singing or dancing,” admits Elizabeth. “I started playing piano at 4 years old, sang in church choir as soon as I learned the alphabet, performed in 18 musicals and took dance classes from a young age until I went to college. I’ve always loved music, singing and performing, they just make me really happy. Both of my great grandfathers played in a country bands in Iowa, and Mom sings in our church choir and plays piano, so it runs in the family. There was always music playing in our house or car. Dad listened to classic rock like the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, The Who, and the Eagles, and Mom listened to Madonna, Earth, Wind & Fire, Fleetwood Mac & Carole King…I particularly loved the ‘Tapestry’ album! So I heard a great mix of influences growing up for sure.”

Elizabeth got a healthy dose of country music as well when visiting her grandparents in Iowa. “We’d go visit my grandparents in North Iowa all the time. My family has owned a farm in Iowa for over a 100 years and there was always country music playing there, filling my heart & soul. I feel blessed to know both the country & city life; having a city influence, but also having spent a huge part of my life in the country, learning about life and how everything is meant to be. Life is what you make of it, and as my Grandpa use to say: ‘it’s a good ole world’. I consider myself a Midwest girl - city chic, but with a country heart.”

While studying radio, television & film in college at The University of Wisconsin, Elizabeth longed to move to Nashville to pursue music full time, but her parents told her higher education must come first, so she transferred to Vanderbilt University to finish up college and pursue her dream. She interned for two summers working full time for Roots Three Music co-venture of ole publishing company and continued working as an intern throughout her time in college. During her time interning there, she spent a lot of time absorbing and learning from many of Nashville’s top writers. She attended & played at writers’ nights at the famed Bluebird Café, which is home to a long list of Music City’s finest songsmiths who perform their songs to live audiences, showcasing their treasured hits and unveiling new ones.

“I became obsessed with studying & hearing all the work tapes and learning about all the writers different styles,” recalls Elizabeth. “When I first moved to Nashville I used to go to the Bluebird and just sit and listen to the writers tell their stories. One can learn a lot by being a good listener. I love Georgia Middleman, Matt Nolen, who I write a lot with, as well as Bob DiPiero and Ashley Gorley, I also think Craig Wiseman is a genius. I had the opportunity to be in a songwriter round with Tim Nichols at the Bluebird and he’s one of the all-time greats having won a Grammy - and Luke Laird is amazing! I have been influenced by so many great writers, and I wish I could list them all!”

After transferring down to Vanderbilt University, Elizabeth focused on her songwriting and began making connections in the industry. She released her first six-song EP while still in school, and boosted by her many college friends, the collection took off instantly, landing on Billboard’s regional Heat Seekers Chart and making an impressive mark on the country genre of iTunes: her EP is currently an ‘All-Time Best Seller $8 & Under on iTunes'

She has been performing at clubs, festivals, fundraisers, businesses, colleges, schools around the country sharing the stage with many acts to include a few: Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum, Hunter Hayes, Sam Hunt, Alabama, Dierks Bentley, Cole Swindell, Chase Rice, Cheap Trick, and Thomas Rhett. Early believers like Joe’s Bar owner in Chicago, IL fell in love with her spark plug personality and talent, and she soon found herself in high profile gigs like singing the “National Anthem” at Wrigley Field and performing her original songs at CMA Music Festival, Summerfest, Country Jam, Country USA, Country on the River, Country Stampede, and Mardi Gras.

Lyons took leadership roles in Greek life during college and still keeps in touch with many of her sorority chapters around the country, performing at many college fundraising events. She graduated from Vanderbilt in 2013 with a Film Degree, adding more tools to her belt and increasing her already impressive business sense. This in-depth film knowledge & understanding helped Elizabeth when partnering with directors/producers to create her two music videos. Her goal & dream is to have one of her songs in an award winning movie someday.

Elizabeth's music has collectively sold more than 75,000 downloads to date, and counting. Quite a feat for ANY artist, let alone a totally “DYI” independent one. Among those popular tracks is the fun-spirited “Jeep,” her answer to the quintessential country truck song, which showcases her smooth, soulful vocals and her single “#Party Rules,” a list of must-dos for a fun-filled night on the town that was inspired by a cousin’s Instagram. "Go Girl," is another popular track among fans, a girl anthem that says: “you go girl- it's a big old world and it ain't gonna stop.”

The music video for “#PartyRules” shot up the iTunes Top Country Music Video Chart striking the coveted #1 spot and the #6 position on iTunes Video Chart for all-genres, passing clips by super stars among the likes of Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift and demonstrating Lyons’ immense popularity & loyalty among her many fans. Most recently, her video has been featured on CMT Pure Country hitting the #4 spot on the 12 pack fan voted chart. Obviously striking a chord, Elizabeth hopes to keep increasing that connection with every new song she releases.

“I love to write songs about my life and I hope other people will relate my personal experiences with their own,” she admits. “I just try to write from the heart and be true and honest to who I am, and hope that my songs will find a place in someone else’s heart. That connection with my fans is so important to me- in fact it's everything. They are truly the best part of this music journey. I feel blessed every day to do what I love and meet such incredible people along the way.”

"The Shore’s Country Starlet"

Country musician and Winnetka native Elizabeth Lyons doesn’t sit still for long. When we spoke, she had just returned from the Taste of Country Music Festival in New York, and the coming weekend is another festival with Sam Hunt and Chase Rice at CountryFest in Wisconsin, and a concert for the Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star Contest, where she will be performing as a Top 5 Finalist at the Skokie store. “Kiss FM is promoting it and I grew up listening to that station non-stop and shopping at Macy’s Old Orchard—it will be a really cool moment,” she says.

Though the 25-year-old lives in Nashville these days, she understands the importance in traveling back home every so often. So much so, in fact, that she penned a song titled “Made in the Midwest” for her sophomore album I’ve Never, which she released this February. Its chorus—“I’ve got that heartland heart and soul running through my veins, no matter where I go it’s going to show I was made, made, made in the Midwest”— is a strong reminder of the North Shore native’s home region. “It’s a tribute to no matter where you go, I believe it shows,” she says. “Midwesterners are kind, humble, and hardworking—I am so proud of my roots being in the heartland of America.”

Lyons attended New Trier High School, where she was in an array of activities, including musical theater, choir, and classical piano. But it wasn’t until a summer internship at a music publishing company in Nashville that she began learning the ropes of the industry and taking music more seriously. She decided to leave the University of Wisconsin-Madison. “I ended up transferring to Vanderbilt to pursue music and realized I needed to be down there if this was really something I wanted to make happen,” she says.

“It was the best decision I ever made.” When she was just a senior in college, she released her debut self-titled-EP, a six-song album that swept iTunes, Mediabase, and Billboard charts.

Videos quickly became her forte, as well: Her single “#PartyRules” charted No. 1 on the Country Music Video Chart on iTunes and No. 4 on CMT Pure channel, landing her right above Carrie Underwood’s “Something in the Water” video and right below Taylor Swift’s iconic “Shake it Off ” sequence. “It was out of this world,” she recalls, naming Swift as one of her biggest influences for entering the music realm to begin with. “I had seen what she was doing from a business perspective—that she was her own driving force—and that was really great for me to watch,” she says.

That early admiration morphed into emulation soon enough. While most artists require a creative coordinator, art director, publicist, business manager, social media coordinator and beyond, Lyons is a one-woman operation. “I thank my parents because they always told me that the best way to get things done is to do it yourself,” she notes. “I hope I can be a mentor and an example for that dreamer who wants to stay in school, finish college, and pursue the dream, because if you work hard, anything is possible.”

It seems that anything is possible for Lyons, including a second album inspired by the aspirations she, herself, never thought could come true. “I never thought I’d be following my dreams or releasing a second album or opening up for the artists I grew up listening to,” she says, referencing the Taste of Country Music Festival she just opened for Kenny Chesney. This summer there’s more. On Saturday, August 20, she’s playing a “Rock the Sox” show at Chicago’s U.S. Cellular Field before the White Soxtake on the Oakland As. While she credits much of her success to the inspiration gained from other independently started acts like Florida Georgia Line and Chase Rice, she also turns to three words of advice from New Trier Varsity Tennis Coach Jerry Karzen. “He always said to us, ‘more than anything, it’s about exercising patience, persistence, and perseverance.’”

Lyons hopes to deliver that message to today’s students during her I’ve Never tour, which has her speaking on behalf of the Country Music Association Education Chapters at universities nationwide about the inner workings of the music industry. “It’s hard when you’re at a school and don’t know where the music community is,” she says. “This is a great way for students to have that connection to Nashville, and I hope to make their music journeys easier by sharing what I’ve learned along the way.”

Lyons’ tour will wrap on September 17 in Clear Lake, Iowa—just five minutes from where she spent childhood trips visiting her grandpa, a musician who played with the likes of Hank Williams Jr. and Johnny Cash, and the first country star in her life.

The finale’s serendipitous location is just another example of life’s all too frequent full circle tracks for Lyons. “You have to always keep the faith, and you really never know where it will guide you,” she says. “It’s important for me to always be true to who I am and to never forget where I came from.”

Bio

I’m Midwest city-chic mixed with a country girl heart. I’ve been singing, dancing, and performing since I could first walk. Growing up in the northern suburbs of Chicago, I was always singing in my church choir. Today, you can find me riding around Nashville on summer nights with my top-down, blasting Faith Hill. I may not be Southern born-and-bred, but country music was the anthem to my childhood. I fondly remember my childhood summers at my Great Grandpa Al’s house in Iowa, where Hank Williams was always blasting on the radio. Even now, I can hear my Grandpa Al smiling at me and saying, ”It's a good OLD world!”

I truly believe that people come into our lives for a reason. Like Grandpa Al, I also truly believe that we live in a “good old world”; that God is good; that life is what you make of it; and that you must find the positive in every challenging experience. I think this is the true meaning of country music: taking profound experiences like love and life and loss and finding the beauty in them. Things happen the way they are supposed to. Everything will work out if you just have a little patience, a little music, and a little faith.

I write songs about my life, but I hope that you are able to find some connections to your personal experiences in my music. My first EP is filled with six songs I wrote from the heart. Like me on Facebook, follow me on Twitter & Instagram & Pinterest, and follow my videos on YouTube. I want to hear from YOU! I hope you join me in this incredible journey. I’ll cheer you along on your firsts if you cheer me on as well. Hey…we’re both in each other’s lives for a reason!
