Speakin of Sleepers, El Jesus De Magico's 'Abracadabra' ep is as great a take on Seventh World post-snort fuckery as yr likely to have ear-a-gated into the folds of your fat any time soon. I ain't heard none of them other newbies what was also just released on Columbus Discount, but if they's all as killer as this one, then the label is rackin up a formidable tally.

retty solid session of lost solo homebody rantings, which alternate between the murky/austere Ohio undie rock of yore and some slightly altered perceptions via synth and delay. Coincidentally sits between a lot of the records in this column - it wouldn't sound out of place next to Blank Dogs, Religious Knives, or Heavy Winged, even though these bands don't have a lot to do with each other. That's right - they get by on the moods they create. Anyway, this is some pretty high-quality material from a guy with a couple of releases out, in particular the psychedelic mindmeld going on in "Indian Giver." "El Jesus is well schooled in both classic Ohio punk (see: Electric Eels) and 90's trash rock (see:Royal Trux). I'm sorry if the loud noises are upsetting you. Can I get you a pamprin? - Matthew Fritch
