Bio
My name is Ellis Callahan. I am a singer-songwriter and I am originally from Northern Pennsylvania. Early on in my musical career I simply sang in choirs and took piano lessons and generally played along with the lesson plans. However, eventually I stumbled across a book that taught the fundamentals of "Rock Piano". In that book I found some of the basic tools I needed to play the music I truly loved and through that door I ran whole-heartedly into contemporary music.
I had a few garage bands in high school and collectively we played a few dances and 'Pops Concerts' and I really must say, it was a lot of fun. Then I had the good fortune to form a band called "The Cool Table" with my brother, Joe Callahan, and his friend Tyler Parsons. Intially, I was just going to split lead vocals and play the keyboard but when confronted with the challenge of finding a bassist in such a small area Joe did the only logical thing; he handed me a bass guitar and thus our power trio was formed. In the ensuing few months we learned around sixty Classic Rock favorites (on an intrument I had never touched before) and played our first show at a joint called Fred's Lobster Garden on New Years Eve. We went on to play dozens of shows making the bars dance like never before; and to think, I was just seventeen at the time. Being paid for rocking out for three hours was a sublime experience bordering on surreal but in the back of my mind I knew right away that I was hooked. My soul was bought and sold to music. Wholesale.
To further pursue music after high school I jumped across the country to attend Musician's Institute in Hollywood, California. I fit like a glove with the rest of the world's burgeoning contemporary music hopefuls. It was the best choice I have made and the best time I have had as of yet. I attended as a Vocal Performance major and recieved my Associate's Degree of the Arts and it is proudly on display in my home studio. At this school I met and befriened career musicians and hit songwriters that taught me so much about honing a craft, telling a story, performing and ultimately, being heard. Their guidance is invaluable to me and to this day I owe them a debt of graditude.
After eighteen intensive months, countless bands, recording sessions, performances, and songs written, three of my good friends and I moved into a house in North Hollywood and rest really begins my history. Over the next three years I continued my foray into the life of a working musican with a complete and total dedication to my craft. I recorded two consecutive, full length, debut albums entitled 'Steady on the Street Lights' and 'I'm Lost' done almost entirely in a mere six days. My fellow musicians on the recordings were from across the globe from Nova Scotia and Hawaii, to Denmark, Wales, and Florida. As such, I have developed a steadfast network of peers comprised of some of the best musicans I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and calling my friends. I call them 'The Few and the Faithful'. My band. My second family.
I've since gone on to write more songs than I know what to do with and will continue to do so until I no longer can... and then maybe just a few more. I am forever a student. Forever a musician.
