BandSpoken WordSinger/Songwriter

Music speaks to the soul and words speak to the heart. I am that person that wants to break hearts, mend hearts, flutter hearts, and warm hearts. I do that by putting words to paper and creating meaningful heart-felt lyrics.

Biography

I am a lyricist. I write the words that every song needs. I have been writing songs since I learned how to write a complete sentence. Songwriting is a form of storytelling. However, the word usage and tone have to be carefully crafted to create a memorable song. I focus on lyrics only because that is my strength. I do not know a lot about music arrangement. So, I do what I do best and that is to write lyrics.

Lyrics

Strumpet Avenue

Written By: Laphilia Davis

Verse 1
Her mother didn't know
How to treat her like a daughter
Her father walked out
When she was just a toddler
She thought the answer to her problems was to be a runaway
Instead of going to school she packed for her journey

Pre-Chorus
She said, As soon as I can
I'll make that move
To get away from my mother's blues
As soon as I'm gone
I'll never look back
My life will start anew

Chorus
Ten dollar thrills, a regular clientele
Answers to a madame, her own one room cell
Sleeps in the day, a lady of the night
On Strumpet Avenue, she made a mess of her life
Ten dollar thrills, a regular clientele
Answers to a madame, her own one room cell
Sleeps in the day, a lady of the night
On Strumpet Avenue, she makes the most of her life

Verse 2
She broker her piggy bank
And had a dollar fifty three
She asked the bus driver,
"How far can this take me?"
Five blocks later
She sighed and had to make do
Her bus fare took her
to Strumpet Avenue

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Bridge
She's on a dead end road
and can't turn around
Her life got flipped
turned inside-out
She said, "As soon as I can
I'll make tht move,
to get as far as I can
from Strumpet Avenue"

Chorus 2x

My, Isn't She Pretty

Written By: Laphilia Davis

Verse 1
Saw her at twelve
And how good did she smell
Her mother always kept
her nice and neat
She wore a ribbon in her hair
And I tried not to stare
As I looked at her
My heart did replete

Pre-Chorus 1
I can't help this feeling
Her presence's so appealing
And for her
I wrote this little ditty
As I try to find the words
My heart begins to urge
My, Isn't she pretty

Chorus
My oh my
She's a pretty little thing
All dressed up
On a warm day in Spring
As I take her by the hand
And look deep in her eyes
I declare my devotion
And kiss away her cries

Verse 2
Twelve years later
I had a chance to date her
She grauduated
And moved back home
I took her to the spot
Where all my cares I forgot
And she told me to
Never leave her alone

Pre-Chorus 1

Chorus

Bridge
Now her face covered in tears
As she takes her place by my side
Not six months ago, I asked her to marry me
And she accepted to be my bride

Pre-Chorus 2
I got this wonderful feeling
As she pulled me up from kneeling As I placed the ring on her
She said she saw me at twelve
And her heart skipped as well
I thought, my I'm a lucky man

Chorus 2x

Chain-Smoker

Written By: Laphilia Davis

Verse 1
Caught me off guard
True I admit
Saying sweet nothings
Then that was it
Had me falling quickly
Falling for your shit
Couple weeks later
I'm sittin in the pits

Pre-Chorus
I should've known (should've known)
By the time I figured it out
I was gone (I was gone)
Too far gone to turn away
So I stayed (so I stayed)
Inhaling all the smoke
The words that you spoke
Continued to make me choke

Chorus
(Sound: PUFF, PUFF)
My vision's a lil' hazy
A smoke screen
to make your true ways
Now, no longer choked up
I see who you are
A chain-smoka

Verse 2
One or two packs
Or is it three chicks a day
You lit me up quick
And your bed's the ashtray
Should've, could've, would've
Left you alone
And this pain I'm feeling now
Would all be gone

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Bridge
All the words you spoke
Remind me of a puff of smoke
They were there (then they vanished)
Into the air
To where
Probably with the other chick
You decided to smoke with

Pre-Chorus

Chorus 2x

Subtle Love

Written By: Laphilia Davis

Verse 1
I'm in love with a whisper
For that's all I heard of you
As you quietly spoke your name
My heart began anew

Pre-Chorus
I'm in love without a doubt
And the subtlties of your being
Confirms my deep affection
For believing depends not on seeing

Chorus
Subtle love, subtlties, suddenly taking over me, yeah
Subtle love, subtlties, suddenly wanting to be the one you need

Repeat Chorus

Verse 2
I'm in love with a shadow
For your image I've never seen
The more I think about it
The more I seem to cling

Pre-Chorus

Chorus 2x

Bridge
I'm in love with your fingertips
As you unknowingly brush my side
One day I hope to feel all of you
As I make you my bride

Pre-Chorus

Chorus 2x

Subtlely falling in love.
