Bio

Eloquent Edge is a jazz/fusion/rock band from Ottawa, Canada featuring Bob Ross on bass, Bruce Corian on guitar and violin, Carol Landry on piano and synths and Pat Ross on drums. Drawing from an eclectic mix of influences including Rush, Weather Report, Pat Metheny, Yes, Return To Forever, The Trans Siberian Orchestra and many more, the band creates a vibrant, cutting-edge sound that is best described as 'unique yet familiar'.

The quartet is known for its impromptu jam sessions, and for their uncanny ability to fashion complete songs on the spot, with no preparation other than a few short words and glances before starting. Instant 4-, or 5-minute compositions made up right there on stage, with minimal cues between them. It's something to be heard.

The band's origins follow a convoluted path that first saw Bob, Bruce and Pat playing the competitive Montreal club circuit during the late 1980's with We're Easy, a popular high-energy rock band featuring vocalist Marco Laposta. From there Bruce went on to a successful career with Montreal goth-metal masters Thunder Rider, but reunited briefly with Bob for his first solo CD in 1994. The three eventually drifted apart, with Bob moving to Ottawa (and Pat following suit some years later). The separation, though lengthy, would prove over the course of time to be temporary.

Meanwhile, 200km away in Ottawa, Carol was being classically trained on alto sax and studying piano, ending up in the Governor General of Canada's Footguards CC Marching Band. On Sundays she could be found leading the children's' choir at her local church, which would soon include Bob and Pat as supporting musicians.

Some time during the fall of 2007, the three began revisiting some of the hymns they played during the choir gig with a view to turn them into more progressive, jazz-influenced pieces. In addition, they began writing new, original material, with an emphasis on composition and musicianship, and covered the occasional jazz standard as well. Eloquent Edge was born.

A friendly visit by Bruce to the trio's studio in the fall of 2008 led to him joining his old friends, and the current lineup was finally in place.

The band's debut CD, 'The November Sessions', is available now online at iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, and several other music portals. It can also be found on the shelves of CD Warehouse and Compact Music in Ottawa, and at Archambault in Montreal and throughout the Province of Quebec.
