ELSKA personifies natural beauty and raw emotion through her self-penned piano inspired, acoustic-pop melodies. Her soulful, poetic lyrics linger in the mind long after the silence. She is a songwriter beyond her years, and a young heart on the verge of stardom...

Biography

With a name meaning ‘love’ in Icelandic and a voice compared to an angel’s, 21 year-old singer-songwriter, ELSKA has charmed her way into the hearts of many audiences. Her soulful, piano inspired, acoustic-pop melodies have enticed the ears of music lovers all across the Gold Coast, Brisbane and interstate.

ELSKA is no stranger to being in the spotlight, she has been performing onstage since she was 6 years-old. The multi-talented entertainer has been dancing, singing and playing piano, harp & guitar to spellbound crowds since her primary school days.

Songwriting is ELSKA’s true passion. “It’s about being ‘inside’ the music and letting it take over you”, reveals ELSKA. “It’s so important to make the melodies my own and to put my mark on the recording and production process. It’s not just about standing there and simply singing”.

ELSKA’s love for soulful music is closely mirrored by her musical influences. “Artists such as Jewel and Tori Amos have been so influential on my music and my life”, states ELSKA. “More recently, I’ve been inspired by the likes of Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch and Brooke Fraser”.

Currently in her final year studying Popular Music at the QLD Conservatorium of Music, ELSKA has her twinkling eye set firmly on taking over her second home of Sydney in 2006. Until then, local audiences can revel in ELSKA’s latest EP ‘Breakaway’, due for independent release in July 2005. Written, recorded and produced by ELSKA, the EP features 5 emotion-filled songs - all showcasing her signature acoustic-pop style.

But perhaps the clearest vision of ELSKA’s future career comes from the down-to-earth artist herself. “Music is a universal language”, expresses ELSKA. “It breaks down barriers and crosses continents. I feel so honoured to be part of something so simple, yet so special. For me, song-writing is the heart and soul of being human”.

'Everything'

Written By: Elska

Feels like a lifetime since we met
Could it be that you're the one, I will never forget?
Yesterday you told me, "You take my breath away"
And I remember the way you'd say...

I never thought that we could be
Crazy as it may seem
I wannabe your everything...
How many days have to go by
Before I can breathe you in?
I wannabe your sweetest sin, your everything...

Feels like a lifetime has passed by
Could it be that we were young, and never questioned why?
Hey baby come follow, I want you desperately
Do you believe me, 'cuz I'm ready...

I never thought that we could be
Crazy as it may seem
I wannabe your everything...
How many days have to go by
Before I can breathe you in?
I wannabe your sweetest sin, your everything...

Can you see me flying high?
And under the beat I chase away my fears
I never believed I'd find you on my way down... my way down

I never thought that we could be
Crazy as it may seem
I wannabe your everything...
How many days have to go by
Before I can breathe you in?
I wannabe your sweetest sin...

I never thought that we could be
Crazy as it may seem
I wannabe your everything...
How many days have to go by
Before I can breathe you in?
I wannabe your sweetest sin, your everything...

'Breakaway'

Written By: Elska

I... I can't stand by
And watch you let go of my hand or my life
You... you never believed
That we could be everything that we could be

So I'll leave you this way
I've given more than I can take

Don't breakaway
'Cause I can hardly breathe
And it ain't the same
I'm halfway underneath,
And I don't feel safe
Whenever you're with me
So don't breakaway
And lead me astray...

Times... when you were not there
Days were so empty, the nights were so bare
And now... that you are here
I would give anything to disappear

So I'll leave you this way
I've given more than I can take

Don't breakaway
'Cause I can hardly breathe
And it ain't the same
I'm halfway underneath,
And I don't feel safe
Whenever you're with me
So don't breakaway...

Daylight does preceed me
Time flies, I am weary
You are everything that I once was...

I... I can't stand by
And watch you let go of my hand or my life

Don't breakaway
'Cause I can hardly breathe
And it ain't the same
I'm halfway underneath...

Don't breakaway
'Cause I can hardly breathe
And it ain't the same
I'm halfway underneath,
And I don't feel safe
Whenever you're with me
So don't breakaway
And lead me astray...

'Leave Me This Way'

Written By: Elska

I can't believe
This is happening,
I was in control
Now I'm not anymore...

I thought you were the only one
How I turned out, so wrong

Leave me this way
Where I want to stay
And don't say
That you need me someday,
And I won't breakdown
And tell you to stay
Leave me this way
Where I want to stay...

I can not believe
Something's changed in me
I was once unsure
Now I'm not anymore....

'Cause I thought you were the only one
How I turned out, so wrong

Leave me this way
Where I want to stay
And don't say
That you need me someday,
And I won't breakdown
And tell you to stay
Leave me this way
Where I want to stay...

I can't believe
This is happening...
