El Tumbao de Juana

“El Tumbao de Juana” was born on the streets of Barcelona with the aim of providing a unique musical experience for music and festival lovers everywhere. The project is based on the different sounds of Colombia's traditional music, especially those of African heritage, native to the Atlantic and the Pacific Coast of Colombia. The group has incorporated many sounds into it’s innovative style including genres such as jazz and rock, producing a sound rooted both in tradition and experimentation.

Since 2009 the “Tumbao de Juana” has shocked Barcelona's music scene with it's use of inventive satirical lyrics and delightful music, made especially for the enjoyment of the dancers. That same year,
the group was selected to participate in "Buskers Festival Barcelona" (a festival in which the group went on to perform in 2010 and 2011).

In 2010 the band joined the project "Elephant Caravan" in conjunction with the Spanish NGO "Dentists on Wheels" and travelled to Maghama - Mauritania to encourage and promote local culture. In a great journey along with many artists and the community of Maghama, a recording studio was built in order to record multiple music initiatives of Mauritania. Later in August, they attended “Buskers Festival” in Ferrara, Italy.

“El Tumbao de Juana” recorded their EP "Alegría es movimiento" in “La Karraka Studios” Barcelona, between November 2010 and February 2011. This work shows the process of experimenting with traditional music and contemporary sounds. Starting in june 2011, El Tumbao de Juana has begun an extended tour in Italy, participating in “Busker's festival Vernasca, Chieti, Castellaro and Ischia Island. They also participated in “Busker´s festival Ludwigsburg”, Germany and Vienna.
