"NEW ADVENTURE"

At "O Patro Vys" in Montreal on June 14, the group Elyse and The Affair launched its first CD in front of nearly 100 people. Six original compositions can be found on this eponymous album.
The evening opened with another first : the unveiling of the "To the start" video. The electric guitar sets the tone and the five members deliver a performance in a decor reminiscent of the Irish plains. The energy of the group then carries on the stage at O Patro Vys and the crowd is rapidly conquered. Elyse Robineault, Karine Tremblay, Sergio Caluori, Sébastien Savoie and Dominique Fortin present about ten original songs.
In the middle of the set, Elyse offers a nod to both past and present bands, featuring women as their lead singer. She puts down her guitar and takes over the stage to perform "One Way or Another" by Blondie and "Shake it out" by Florence and the Machine. Elyse specifies that, in the late 1970’s, Blondie was one of the first rock bands led by a woman. This trend continues today with groups such as Florence and the Machine and now, Elyse and The Affair.
After sixty minutes of an uninterrupted rock performance, the crowd still wanted more. The group thus closed off the evening with the song that launched the event, "To the start", this time played live.
Elyse Robineault is one of the contestants from the original cast of Star Académie in 2003. She has since worked on many different projects, as did each of the other band members. She recorded two albums, Sortilège in 2006 and The Open Book, under the pseudonym Liz Robin, in 2008. For the past two years, she led the project Elyse and The Affair. Meanwhile, they also toured the province with their tribute show to The Cranberries, under the name The Berry Shandy.
Elyse and the Affair is influenced by a variety of artists from the alternative rock scene such as Nirvana, Hole, Foo Fighters, PJ Harvey and The Cranberries. The result is a unique sound, catchy melodies and contagious energy. - Julien Capri

Bio

Echoing the raw power and distorted pop of the ‘90s alternative scene, Elyse & the Affair burst from Canada with relentless energy and invigorating hooks. Featuring guitarists Karine Tremblay and Sebastien Savoie, bassist Dom Fortin, and drummer Sergio Caluori, Elyse & the Affair unpack two decades of experience on their self-titled debut EP. From the loud-soft dynamics of Erase to the spiraling guitars of To the Start to the infectious fuzz of Time Has Come, Elyse & the Affair offer an electrifying introduction that wastes no time in reeling in listeners.

For Robineault, the band represents the sum total of years as a road warrior. Since releasing her album Sortilège in 2006, Robineault has logged in hundreds of gigs, including the Star Académie Show Tour, Le Studio Théâtre de la Place des Arts, Les FrancoFolies, Le Gesu, and two musical tours for the Canadian Forces.

With roots in the Berry Shandy, a Cranberries tribute group, Elyse & the Affair have uncovered their own sound, one that is influenced by the groundbreaking modern-rock revolution of the 90s but with its eyes on the future.
