Discography

Emay first approached the music world with his remix project entitled A.D.D. (Altered Dynamic Dimensions) in 2008, which created some buzz throughout blogs and forums on the internet.

In late 2009 he released his first official single Child (Refugee) which received a lot of positive critique.

On February 23rd, 2010, Emay released an EP entitled Sounds Like with dutch producer Ivan Ice. Sounds Like received positive critique while circulating the internet on various websites.

On April 26th 2010, Emay released his most notable release entitled Emay, Karen O, and the Kids. Emay, Karen O, and the Kids is an instrumental album based off of the book ‘Where The Wild Things Are’. That instrumental project was unique from the rest of his releases because he only used samples from the soundtrack of the movie based off of the book. The release of this project allowed him to experiment, and expand his fan base to a wider range of listeners.

On July 2010, Emay, EOM, and remot released a remix project under the name RockPaperScissors in order to introduce themselves as a group.

On January 18th, 2010, Emay released Mind Altering Dynamics, which is a mini LP completely produced and written by himself. The EP consists of features from Stephaloo and Lowell Boland.

Emay is also part of the group Seeing Suge with Star Slinger and Blackbird Blackbird. This release was mentioned on Pitchfork along with an intro to Star Slinger's music.

Bio

Mubarik Gyenne Adams (born December 18, 1991 in Montreal, Quebec), better known as Emay, is a music producer and rapper. Mubarik currently lives in Hamilton, ON, Canada. He started rapping and producing in 2006, and hasn't stopped since.

Mubarik spent most of his childhood living in the Vendome patch of Flemingdon Park, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and then later moved to Brampton, Ontario when he was in grade 5. Mubarik was first exposed to hip-hop when his immigrant cousin Nasara would constantly listen to Nas while living in the Vendome residence. His mother would listen to a lot of West African, Reggae, Disco, Pop, Country, R&B, and religious music. Emay was a huge fan of Eminem and Dr. Dre when he was in elementary school, and would stick tissue into his mothers cassette tapes in order to record their music off of the radio. After Mubarik moved to Brampton, Ontario, Canada in grade 5, he was no longer a fan of hip-hop as much and would recreate melodies on his sisters digital MIDI keyboard. He also began listening to jazz and classical music from the radio. When he reached grade 8, he became intrigued with southern hip-hop, and was a big fan of T.I.'s Grand Hustle label, and artists like Young Jeezy, UGK, and Lil' Boosie. As he progressed through high school he began listening to more old school and underground hip-hop acts such as Jedi Mind Tricks, O.C., AZ, Showbiz & A.G., and MF DOOM. In 2006, he began creating instrumentals in FL Studio in attempt to mimic his favourite producers and artists. Mubarik learned how to create instrumentals in FL Studio after his online mentors Lion and Gravity gave him tips and advice. His online mentors also assisted him with his rapping as well. As he completed high school, he began listening to a lot more different genres including Classical, Classic Rock, Grunge, Emo, Alternative, Punk, Soul, Ambient, and more.
He currently resides in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
