Bio

"What do you get when you mix folk with bluegrass and add a little bit of rock and roll? The dynamic and energy-driven duo of Emessa. Pennsylvania-born best friends Emma Forster and Alyssa Martin, along with their assortment of instruments, command an audience’s attention wherever they play, from coffee shops to special events. A fire was lit when the two joined forces over 10 years ago, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. With spirit, spunk and a touch of moxie, Emessa is ready to take their big-city talent out of their small-town roots.

From the Band:

"Hi! I am Emma and this is my best friend Alyssa. We call ourselves Emessa!" This always seems to be the way we introduce ourselves before every set!

Our chemistry on and off of the stage is incredible. It doesn't happen very often. We love to entertain and charm the audience with our outgoing personalities. We've just recently formed an official band together to highlight our friendship and our differences. We combine our love for bluegrass, blues, country and rock by taking upbeat instrumentals and adding a dark feel to it. We have many ideas for this project. Our long friendship, skills, and experience has given us the tools to build a successful duo!

OUR STORY:
Emma and I have been friends since we were 4 years old. Everything that has happened in our friendship over the last 16 years is just ironic.

Our story starts when we met on a playground in Manheim where we both lived at the time. Lets just say we hit it off and were attached at the hip from the moment we met. I ended up moving to Lebanon and we couldn't get in-touch with Emma's family. I thought I would never see her again. It turns out she was living in Lebanon also. She was in my first-grade class! We have been best friends from that moment on!

Musically, our story doesn't start to long after that. Emma started taking private violin lessons at the age of 7 and of course, I followed soon after. We were very competitive against each other which was the push we both needed to become very skilled musicians. We formed a little ensemble to perform at nursing homes, churches, schools, and many other local venues and functions.

Once we were teens we went to music camps together and started forming our differences as musicians. I was more on the formal side and loved classical and Celtic music. Emma loved playing country and bluegrass music. The performance opportunities we have received together has been amazing. We've played along side the Annie Moses Band, The Steel Drivers, Tracy Silverman, and many more. We have mastered the mandolin, guitar, bass and electric violin. If you learn more about us I think you will realize how much we love performing!

love,
Alyssa <3
