"Art, Music, and Emii"

This one-named wonder has been a model for the last six years and has been trying to break into music ever since she moved to Queens about a year ago.

“I really don’t remember how I got into modeling,” Emii said. “I was a nerdy kid, and this was very out of character. You see everybody shining bright on the television and think ‘I wonder if I can do that.’”
And so she stopped wondering and started doing it.

The talented singer, whose music can be heard at www.myspace.com/emii, has performed in shows at the U.N. and will sing at this year’s TriBeCa Film Festival.
“I really, really love the music,” she said. “As a child I was very artistic.”

That feeling has pulled along divergent paths, but two careers that she sees holding a certain similarity. Both the modeling and music are artistic expression,” she said. A good deal of her modeling work has been for makeup artists and photographers looking to present interesting images for their own portfolios.

Born in Pittsburgh and working in Ohio by the time she was 14, Emii was thrilled to come to Queens.

“I made the move to Queens on my own,” she said. “There’s nothing in Ohio but fields and cows. I love it here.”
To her, a highlight of Queens is that it has an atmosphere “somewhere between Manhattan and Ohio. It’s not The City. It’s not too busy. When I want to be busy I go to Manhattan. When I want a slightly slower pace I stay in Queens.”

When Emii moved to Queens she started her career over, finding a manager, an entertainment lawyer and onemodelplace.com.

"Emii: Beyond..."

Nik the Spik writes: "YoungstownMusic.com was lucky enough to catch singer/songwriter, Emii long enough to probe her brain with a spatula. Originally hailing from Salem, OH, she has packed up and headed to New York to pursue her dream. So far she seems to be doing pretty good with an EP already released and a full length recording under way.

She is a musician of tremendous determination…and she will cut you down with a light saber at the slightest provocation.

Bio

www.EmiiOnline.com

Emii is a NYC-based singer and composer. Just 21 years-old, she has vocal chops that would rival the most experienced of R&B singers, with the rock sensibilities of bands like Incubus and The Offspring. She has gigged around New York, has released a well recieved EP, and is currently working on her full length album.

When Emii left her Youngstown, OH high school to be home-schooled so that she could spend more time on her budding music career, two things were obvious: her dedication to music, and her willingness to do things her own way. That strong personality cuts through in a vocal style uniquely her own, as well. Emii, who is classically trained, is a rocker at heart - but with a strong respect, and understanding for, R&B. The result is a truly original, modern voice.

Setting her sights on more than her hometown could offer, she moved to NYC last year. Here, she gathered a few first-rate musicians that could propel her musical vision forward.  Putting all of her efforts into rehearsing and writing, she managed to put together a live act that was just as (if not more) powerful than her recorded music-- which is an amazing feat in itself.

It’s not just her incredibly rangy voice, exotic looks and effortless stage presence that set Emii apart from most of her prepackaged peers. Her lyrics have an edge, energy –and depth- that belie her youth. When she sings “dance in the rain and race the lightning, just for once don’t try to reason; logic won’t help you, Breaking the rules sometimes is soothing to the soul” it’s moving... and with her band churning behind her, it is jarring.

They have been touring NYC and have amazed audiences with live shows at The Tribeca Film Festival, CBGB's, The Cutting Room, and the United Nations for The UN Relief Committee Tsunami Benefit. Her single, “Payback”, is getting heavy airplay on Brooklyn radio station 90.9 FM, and she was recently interviewed-- and also sang live- on Maxim Radio (Sirius Satellite Radio).

There’s no doubt that Emii has exactly what it takes to impact the entire world with her music.
