"The opening act"

There is reason to think that all guys with an acoustic guitar
want to be Bob Dylan, or play a few standard chords and hum a few
enigmatic words over a slow drone. I went to a show last night with a curiously named opening
act. Emil. He walked on stage with two guitar cases, and I thought "Here is a guy who needs two guitars to bore me!" I was ready for it to be over before it began. The stage light lit a red hue upon him, he looked like a 30's gentleman. Nice suit and tie, this struck me immediately, he wasn't wearing jeans, nor did he look pale and malnourished; he looked physically fit, something that is a rarity on this circuit. He opened a guitar case and I saw a sign taped to the inside that read 'It's O.K.
to say something important." I was interested. He sat down and I braced myself for boredom. He strummed one slow chord and before I could yawn the entire place stopped what they were doing
and had their attention pulled to the stage because Emil was doing mach 3 on this relic looking guitar, he was all over the neck. This was a surprise, this was an assault, this was sexual!
I was glued for 20 minutes. He played 4 amazing songs and told us about his past experience as a guitar player for a failing indie band, we laughed and it felt like we were at a REAL show, we we're really being entertained. Then he brought us back by introducing the top billed band.
that night he gained dozens of fans, no one outside was talking about the regional mediocre band onstage, but about this sonic boom we heard moments before. December 4th 2007 Savannah
GA...it was his first show!

Bio

A Savannah transplant, Emil hails from war-torn Eastern Europe. He has been playing the guitar for the past nineteen years, and from age six to twenty-five, he has developed a style many say is reminiscent of both Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. In late 2007, he began SNJ Records and has released a collection of songs that fit in an intimate live setting. He has been touring non stop in support of his "soul charged"-(Ben Knight, Indi Independent) album. His set's always include stories about his songs and letter readings that motivate audiences "To get Plugged in" (Sara Nelson, Live World) His spoken word sections are always informative and funny, poignant moments really bring out the songs. He has written a book of essays and short stories that will be released in late summer of 2008 that with out out a doubt will keep this tour hungry troubadour on the road for months to come
