"Artist Feature: Emily Danger"

“One of the most amazingly unique bands you will ever hear in your life....everything you love about music is part of Emily Danger."

The Daily Guru, Joel Freimark, 2013 - The Daily Guru

"Emily Danger, Music Video Review"

“...beautiful, perfectly executed songs that defy categorization.”

-Music Review Unsigned Magazine, 2013 - Music Review Unsigned

"Emily Danger: Shed My Skin"

"...one of the most dramatic and striking visual & vocal performances I have ever come across. A band blessed with talent for creating a dramatic sound that supports; giving a perfect platform for a voice so dynamic and soaring in its ability to move you with beautiful tones to a full, almost angry vocal performance."

"...it’s a little uncomfortable at first. But as seconds took me further... I become strangely attached to what made me feel uncomfortable. It drew me in so deeply that by the end I wanted it to keep hold of me…a compulsion to watch and listen more." - Indie Dunes, Ireland

""Shedding the Many Skins of Emily Danger""

"Listening to (Emily Danger's) music is like looking at a series of Caravaggio portraits in a museum: its elegant, its dark, its creepy as hell, but you’re not going to look away anytime soon"
- Alt Citizen Magazine, NYC

"Emily Danger at Comet Tavern"

"I will always love the part near the end of Mariah Carey's 'Emotions' when she busts out her freakishly and impossibly high whistle notes…Mariah hits those last few high notes and it triggered grandma's garage door opener, her voice opened the garage. NYC's Emily Danger is a cabaret via opera house style of singer with a similarly impressive range. Her voice, sometimes soaring, sometimes angry, combined with her piano playing and the dark orchestral arrangements by the band is momentous." (Kelly O., "The Stranger", 2013) - "The Stranger", Seattle, WA

""Emily Danger: Paintings EP""

The band (Emily Danger) released an EP "Paintings" in April 2012. Unfortunately this EP contains only 4 songs. It's a pity because all the songs are great and it's very frustrating not to be able to listen to more music from Emily Danger.

At first listening, I've been quite impressed by Emily Nicholas' voice, in particular in the song "Shed My Skin". Just after hearing a few seconds of this song, my first reaction was "wow ! what a voice !"

The mix of the sound of each instrument and Emily's voice give to the listener a captivating music cocktail of which you will quickly become addicted.

""Paintings by Emily Danger""

The complexity of Emily Danger grabs you from the first note on their album ‘Paintings’. They manage the rare feat of making the listener feel both extremely relaxed by Emily Nicholas’ phenomenal vocals and grappled with excitement from the accompanying music provided by bandmates Ryan Nearhoff (guitar), Colin Lime (bass, drums), and Cameron Orr (violin). The most important thing music can do for its listener is provide them with a soundscape for many moods and atmospheres, and Emily Danger accomplish this effortlessly, if not flawlessly.

Perhaps the most enchanting moments on the record are when Nicholas’ voice truly serves as an instrument in its own right and, not only does the listener get mesmerised in her singing, they don’t want it to end.

For the most part, “Paintings” is a rather mellow affair, in the best possible way. The opening track, ‘Shed My Skin’, begins quietly and eventually lets everyone know exactly how powerful Emily Nicholas’ voice is. If you thought you couldn’t rock out to a song with a violin, this will, undoubtedly, prove you wrong. The title track is the most fast paced of the four song EP, while ‘Never, Know’ and ‘Easy’ are slower paced without ever crossing the line into the dreaded waters of clichéd sap.

Perhaps the most glorious thing about this record is that the entire time one is listening to it, a soundtrack is imagined; the best part being, the film is entirely your own. The lyrics are just vague enough that anyone can give it their own meaning and make it about their own situation. That is precisely what makes people connect so powerfully with music.

The only problem with the ‘Paintings’ EP is that it has only four tracks. More, please.
- Christine Infanger: "Thirty Roses"

Bio

Emily Danger is a dark cabaret rock band from Brooklyn. They combine haunting melodies and vulnerable lyrics with orchestral, heavy, and often dissonant arrangements. Their debut EP, "Paintings", was released in 2012 to critical acclaim. The band performs live within a "box of instruments" surrounding the trio (synth, Nord keys, electric guitar, bass, violin, pedal board, live and electric drums). All band members play multiple instruments while Emily Nicholas' 4 octave reaching voice soars dynamically above the music.

The band was formed after a successful cabaret show in New York city featuring Ryan and Emily. Their debut music video, "Shed My Skin", was directed by artist John Patrick Wells and can be seen on Brooklyn TV, Rormix, MRU TV, MTV2, and Youtube.

The band has toured throughout the US and Canada for the past 2 years, been featured on WFMU, Indie 100, Savage radio and various satellite radio programs internationally & on the West coast, and have been featured in "The Stranger", "Time Out NY", "Seattle Times" and various international blogs. Their second music video, "Easy", is to be released this month as they head into the studio for their debut full length album.

The band's influences include: Radiohead, Bjork, Fiona Apple, classical music, Cole Porter, and hip hop.

When not playing music, the band enjoys laughing, drinking, traveling, reading, and criticizing.
