Bio
Emily Hurd started playing the piano at age 7 in the outskirts of Rockford , IL . Breaking out of the mold of traditional piano and vocal lessons, she developed her own style of playing and singing that led to her love for songwriting. Originally nothing more than a hobby, “Em,” as her friends call her, never thought she'd be writing music for a living. Her creativity is derived from her appreciation of life.
• “ I have this theory that people generally begin to write songs after feeling lost, pained, wronged, saddened, angered, misunderstood, spiritual, or loved…”
• “I also have this theory that discomfort of some sort breeds creativity. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope I never become too consistently comfortable in life or in my mindsets.”
Emily has been writing her own songs for almost 7 years now, and she's spending most of her time in Chicago . She is currently in her last semester at Columbia College Chicago, working with the school's record label, AEMMP Records, who released her first cd, "Lines" in April.
