EMILY KATTER

Blending in with the crowd is never something I have done well. My curly hair, inquisitive personality and strong voice have always caused a stir. Being a twenty-something has not always been easy for me, but it’s my positive, lighthearted view of the world, along with pure determination, that has kept me on track and pushed me to where I am today.

Growing up in a home filled with influential music from the 60’s and 70’s, I developed a passion for music and storytelling at a young age. I found my voice at the age of six and would sing to anyone who would listen. Throughout my childhood and into young adulthood, I took the stage in countless performances, which led me to Syracuse University, where I trained classically as a voice major. At Syracuse I was exposed to all different types of music as well as extremely talented musicians. I expanded my ear and explored different vocal techniques, singing classical art songs, participating in opera performances, singing in Windjammer; the vocal jazz ensemble, as well as covering popular songs at numerous open mic nights around the city.

After college I moved to New York to follow a dream I’ve had since the beginning. I worked full time in the music industry, while continuing to hone my songwriting, recording and performing skills, and finding my own musical style. The biggest lessons I learned are that you have to work as hard as you can to achieve your goals, believe in yourself, and never, ever give up. I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs, but I’m ready to push myself yet again, to break through the clutter and follow my dream to the top– I’m Emily Katter, remember my name because I’m here to stay.
