I strive to be a soul singer in the true sense of the word. I draw upon any genre, be it Pop, R&B, or Jazz that infuses authentic passion, presence, openness and tenderness.

Biography

"Beneath the makeup and behind the smile I am just a girl who wishes for the world." — Marilyn Monroe

This world that I've wished for from the very beginning revealed itself in songs. When I began to sing, the energy in the room would shift and human joys, sufferings, and comedies became alive in a new way. Artists like Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, and Christina Aguilera seemed to have the virtuosity and vocal scope capture the essence of life. These singers - with huge range, power, and tenderness became my inspiration and also, my friends in times of loneliness and desperation.

Their ability to come through for me every time inspired my twenty-six year devotion to music as the deepest form of expression and relation. As a young girl, songs were magical in choir, pageants, and musical theater. A talent was recognized and my teen years of classical training with Sherry Waters (Seth Riggs) resulted in top ten placement in TMEA's 100,000 person competition for three years in a row. This lead to both private and public performing experiences in 2500 seat venues like the Lila Cockrell Theatre in San Antonio, Tx and touring to places like Pearl Harbor.

Since then, I have integrated my classical theory and technique into forms of singing that are closer to my heart. I've begun to write my own music at the piano and also sing cover songs that feel autobiographical in nature. I'm hoping to collaborate with musicians who look for a singer to bring not only professional expertise, but a personal approach to even familiar songs. My press kit demonstrates some of the reworking of favorites from classic artists like Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, Etta James and newer vintage-y ladies like Duffy.

As Marilyn Monroe said, "If I'd observed all the rules I'd never have got anywhere." Creativity has to go beyond our ideas of perfection and flawlessness while still keeping integrity. I hope to connect to other artists, producers, managers, and songwriters who are looking to take chances musically while creating poignant songs that stand the test of time.

Cardboard Box

Written By: Emily Marie

Tell me what you're running from
Tell me why you'd wanna hide your pretty face
From the pain, it'll only find you
I'll write a song you'll sing along...la da da da da
You'll be my rock when everything is wrong
And you know where to find me

Climb into my cardboard box
There's no windows, there's no locks
It's hard to see inside of here
Why don't you climb inside
Where you can feel me

Caress my curls and take my hand
Cuz this is no performance, we cannot go back
Yesterday won't come tomorrow
Come play with me inside my mind...la da da da da
Let go of everything, climb inside with me
And you'll see it's okay just to be

Climb into my cardboard box
There's no windows there's no locks
It's hard to see inside of here, why don't you climb inside
Where you can feel me

Don't be afraid to climb inside yourself
You are everything you ought to be, don't let them tell you you should change
You'll find the light inside the darkness
You can climb out anytime you like
Let your heart be your guide

Climb into my cardboard box
There's no windows, there's no locks
It's hard to see inside of here, why don't you climb inside?
Where you can feel me

Mama's Mirror

Written By: Emily Marie

Oh I miss you mama
Words hardly describe
Oh, the way you made me feel
When I was little
You said, "Baby, don't you cry...
Just keep your chin up high..
be beautiful on your inside
as beautiful as you are outside"

And everybody needs a mama
Mama, can you hear me? Oh
Cuz when you're cryin' in the corner
Mama dries your eyes
Oh and every mama needs her babies
In their eyes her legacy
Mama, mama hold your baby
And baby don't forget your mama loves you

When I got my babies
Sometimes I'd loose my mind
But in those still and silent moments
I got it all back...as I watched them breathe
So, babies take it slow
Take some time...time to smell a rose
Feel the rush of the wind
Know there's a window open if the front door's closed

And everybody needs a babe
A mirror that can show you how
To give your love to somebody
Who takes it all and leaves
It can build you up, then break you down
But, in the end- they come back around
You can see so much inside yourself
Through the mirror of a child

Oh mirror, mirror
You're my reflection
Without you hanging there, I might not dare to dream
Oh mama, mama
Look at your mirror, cuz when you look at me
You'll see what you need to see

You can see yourself through someone else
Through the mirror of a child
A child
My child

Yin Yang

Written By: Emily Marie

I've been living in the shadows of the perfect moon
Hiding from the heat of the sun
Running, running, running...running everyday
Running away...there's no escape
Here comes the sun again
Outside it's pandemonium
And as it sets my eyes will soften
As your sleeping
I will be dancing in the shadows of the perfect moon
Where I feel no shame
Here comes the sun again
Oh the sun feels nice when you are on the beach
But you gotta get up and go
You can plan it baby, plan your everyday
Everyday, everyday
But you know it wont turn out that way
Here comes the sun again
Outside it's pandemonium
And as it sets my eyes will soften as you're sleeping
I will be dancing in the shadows of the perfect moon
Where I feel no shame
Here comes the sun again
Inside the Yin Yang there's hope and there's pleasure
Beauty, pain, sun, rain
Heaven and earth, black and white
There's no wrong or right
