Bio

Hellen is an explosively hot five some hailing from Detroit, Michigan. Their heavy hitting, power chord driven raunchy rock is sure to bring anybody to their feet. Hellen mixes The Runaways type sound with a style that is all their own. The group’s thunderous rhythm section is held tightly together by Amanda Mentzer on bass and Emily Schaller on the drums. Charmain Azzopardi and Becca Tyler deliver the huge guitars while Katie Galazka hits all the right notes on lead vocals.
Hellen is trying to keep their sound dirty by playing rock n roll that pays homage to their influences. Classis rock bands such as AC/DC, Janis Joplin, Alice Cooper, Bob Seger, The Runaways, MC5 and Motley Crue run through their minds while writing songs. Modern day groups such as Green Day, The Black Crowes, Silvertide and South Normal also help to get their creative juices flowing.
Hellen does way more than just rock around town for their fans. They also dedicate mass amounts of time with charity work. Emily Schaller created the Rock CF Foundation in the fall of 2004. The Rock CF Foundation is a foundation that uses rock n roll, both live and recorded to raise funds for cystic fibrosis research and hopes for an eventual cure. Schaller was diagnosed with the genetic disease when she was 18 months old so helping out her own cause with four of her best friends is "amazing" she adds. “They don’t even think twice about helping me out. We know we will play tons of shows for charity and we love that all of the money will be donated to the national CF Foundation to help cure this thing,” says Schaller.
In March 2005 the girls took over the stage of St. Andrews Hall in Detroit for the 2nd Annual Just Let Me Breathe concert put on by the Rock CF foundation. The night brought in roughly $10,000 and the girls played to their biggest crowd yet.
Being together a little over a year has not intimidated these ladies one bit.
They have rocked all of the venues in Detroit including The Magic Bag where they opened up for the widely acclaimed tribute band Lez Zeppelin. Recently gracing the stage at the 2005 Comerica Tastefest, The Majestic Theater, The Hamtramck Blowout and headlining the “Girls Girls Girls” stage at this years Motor City Music Conference, these amateurs have created a buzz around town that will not be going away anytime soon. The girls just completed their first studio session with the famed Andy Patalan of Sponge. Keep your eyes and ears peeled, the women of Hellen are coming to rock a venue near you.
