James releases sophomore effort 'Until I'm a Dead Poet' - Emmitt James

Another new artist is coming to the site. He goes by the name of Emmitt James. James is holding it down for the Milwaukee Hip-Hop scene. However, he is a poet at his core. He’s a two time state finalist and has competed on a national level. A few months back he released a poetry book entitled Food Stamps and Other Forms of Reparations. The book is based on life here in the inner city, sounds deep. At the end of last month he made the official transition from poetry to rapping with the release of his debut project Are You Listening Yet?. - The illixer

On June 29, producer/ songwriter/ spoken word artist/ author Emmitt James dropped his Are You Listening Yet? mixtape. One of the best songs is a track called Smile. Backed by a disenchanted organ sample, a soft bass loop with no drums , the eloquent word play tells the story of a woman who started out in abusive heterosexual relationship and ends up becoming a lesbian.The song is not about the battle between heterosexuality and homosexuality. - Konscious Generation.

Well Emmitt Williams is back at it with his new joint and boy oh boy is the kid going hard. This track though is murder you can hear his rap dreams all through this track check it out.


Emmitt Williams closed out the show after six poems. A self-described artist, comic and musician, this freshman blew many away with his ‘Killadelphia’ monologue: “Welcome to Philadelphia. James just finished his current project with fellow UW- Stevens Point college student and producer I.X. Matthew on “Until I’m a Dead Poet”

James released his first mixtape “Are You Listening Yet” during the Summer of 2012 and released videos for the songs “Investments” and “Smile” via his tumblr.



Emmitt James (born 2/5/93) a Milwaukee, Wisconsin born and raised poet/musician. James at heart is a poet, which shows vividly in his music. He has been compared to other Midwest greats; Common, Kanye West, and Lupe Fiasco but has influences from nearly all genres of music.
