"Wonderful"

I had the pleasure of meeting bass player Eliott Moore when he appeared on my radio program a few years ago. Eliott performed five of his compositions live in the studio. In between the songs (Time Traveler, This is Family, untitled, Bagheera and Momentum) Eliott and I had the chance to discuss his background and his music,

Inspired by his musician uncles, Eliott started playing guitar but switched to bass in high school. Eliott has studied theory with his long time musical friend keyboardist Douglas Edward who came along with him to the studio.

As a true fan of music, Eliott's musical influences vary from Azymuth to Roy Hargrove, Q-Tip to Daft Punk and Steely Dan to Marvin Gaye. He also cites the numerous bass players that have come out of Philadelphia over the years. Eliott doesn't care to have his music boxed in by some label. He defines it as a synthesis of what he takes from the musical world that reaches his ears. Through combining jazz and soul styles, whether acoustic and/or electric, he creates forward thinking modern music of today and for the future.

The music that Eliott performed live in the studio displayed his prowess of both the fretted and fretless basses. On the "untitled" piece he express well thought out ideas that are communicated wonderfully though his fretless playing. The composition "Beguira" with its Middle Eastern flavor contains some lyrical playing from Eliott. The last piece played, "Momentum", was drizzled with just the right hint of funk with a low simmer, quite nasty in a very good way.

One of the latest trends among instrumentalists today is the looping scene. Whereby a musician develops "loops" or song samples on their respective instrument and improvises over them live."This is just one of the many things in my bag that I use to
'woo' the crowd",Eliott says.
Eliott keeps busy working the coffee shop, art houses and private functions in the northeast Atlanta area and collaborating with other independent musicians. His goal is to create music to make people feel good. That was how I felt after his visit to the show. The comments I wrote on my playlist for his visit was simply "Wonderful".

Bio

A true "fan" of music.ELiott rarely meets a stranger as far as music goes.He comes from the background of soul, jazz and pop.But with influences that literally are all over the map i.e. :Azymuth,Roy Hargrove,Qtip,Steely Dan,Marvin Gaye and Daft Punk just to name a few.He finds it daunting to really call his music this or that. "The best thing I could think of was 'World Fusion'.Musically Eliott takes you to a place you think youve been to but maybe not quite.Combinding jazz, soul, acoustic and electric elements Eliott brings the soul of Earth Wind and Fire with the instrumental prowess of a forward thinking modern musician.Eliott truly defines the music of today and tomorrow while never forgetting his roots.
