Bio

Empire State is a state of mind that understands the sovereignty of a supreme being, a holy creator, a just, and majestic God that provided a way out of darkness. The light of Truth comes from within where the heart and mind meet. Together, Ken and Liz Lewis of the group “Empire State”, connect the dots of faith and music in a genre where very few have touched: Christian Rap. Now residing in Sumter, SC, the team of poets of God’s Kingdom, pray to expand the horizon of the Gospel and reach the world with music that reveals the purpose of every individual created – to glorify God.

Originating from Harlem and Brooklyn, New York, Ken and Liz are definitely not rookies to the music world. As hungry artists of secular music in the 90’s, each one can stand firmly on their talents except for one glitch; it was not part of the plan. No deal, record, amount of fame, or riches could stand in the way of God’s perfect design. Until the day they gave their life to Christ and promised to live a life that would be pleasing to the eyes of their Father, could any success actually manifest itself? Empire State decided to lay it all down, not be conformed but transformed, and devoted their talent to fulfilling the act of spreading the Gospel.

So what’s different about this group? As husband and wife, parents, and active servants of their local church the pair found that they were blessed beyond imagination. As an obedient feat they put a record together that describes the “Roots and Fruit” of serving the Lord. The project was released December 9th, 2008. With hopeful hearts, Ken and Liz pray the masses would embrace lyrics like “I’m trying to walk towards maturity/and I ain’t too much concerned with what I earn/ I got soul security/Not SSI/ I’m talking about a brand new life in Christ” and “We’re divided based on religion/Imagine if Christ had questioned God’s decision/Blessed is the one who’s hungry and thirsts/For righteousness, the Word, and puts God first.”

It’s amazing what God can do and the possibilities are unlimited. As stated in the following quote, the reason behind the project was to create a movement for the found and the lost. The only question that is left to be answered is whether or not you are ready to move when God says so.
