Emrah Kotan is a versatile jazz artist whose compositions and arrangements are innovative and sophisticated. His eclectic percussion skills, greatly influenced by his Turkish roots, classical music background, and education in world drumming make his performances electrifying and unforgettable.

Biography

Participating in some of the most famous jazz festivals around the world, such as Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and Istanbul Jazz Festival, Emrah Kotan is becoming one of the well-known names in jazz music. Emrah has acquired a sophistication and unique style of interpretation that has made him an emerging artist to keep your eye on.

As a classically trained percussionist and native of Turkey, Emrah moved to the United States and received his Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from Georgia State University.

Since coming to the United States, he co-founded the critically acclaimed band, International Groove Conspiracy, and has received various awards collectively and individually such as the Future of Jazz Competition for two consecutive years in 2004 and 2005.

Now, Emrah is flexing his artistic vision and is currently recording his solo debut album, due for release in Spring 2010. This album displays his own original compositions and arrangements, such as Ottoman Slap, which can be heard on his website, www.emrahkotan.com, and EPK.
