"The Recommender - Feature"

With this brand spanking new trio from London we are in the action of watching a set of artists step out from the darkness and into the light. This three-piece are an electronic act, but they’ve actually been floating around the London scene for a few years in other guises. Very other guises. They used to be in different bands, none of which were particularly successful, but who had been compared to the likes of Interpol and The Editors. Considering the dark edges of those comparisons, it’s perhaps a little surprising to hear their new work bang and fizz like a bright firework. The early results are showing enough exciting signs to get an “ooh” and an “ahh” from all those who hear them.

Enfant play a brand of dance music that is a marked change from their previous band’s roots, having swapped their guitars for a world of synthetics. You now find crunchy keys and thumping beats, but rather than lobotomise their past, they’ve maintained a few lessons for this venture into a new genre. This is dance music, as it’s aiming for your feet and the floor, but there’s vocals that sing verses and choruses, alongside a start-middle-and-end song structure. This is the pop end of dance music, which will most likely draw comparisons to the likes of Fenech Soler, Kids Of 88, or Monarchy, but there’s a driving pace that sits alongside some excellent sing-along chorus.

The trio are made up of twins, Ali and Robin Owen, who originally come from Scotland and they’re joined by Ed Ellis, from Poole, with whom they’d worked alongside in a previous band. They now call London home and emerged from their studio in August with their first track, Waking Up The Sun. It’s unlikely to be their first official single, more it’s planned as a tasty introduction to their aesthetic. The track begins with synths that are delivered with the kind of funked bounce that wouldn’t look out of place on a Zapp & Roger song. As the title suggests, it’s a wake up tune that’s slapped from one side of your face to the other, before Ed Ellis’ vocals kick in and begin to carry the song. What plays out could easily be earmarked as a single, feeling as radio-friendly as it does, and what it lacks in sophistication it makes up for in accessibility. This isn’t intended to be a ‘grower’ – you will like it from the first listen. In many ways that’s the perfect introduction track.

As DJs they’re familiar with the London club scene as they’ve played the likes of Cargo and The Bowery and are due to be on the decks at the next Appetite For Electro night at Catch. We asked Ali how they plan to interpret what is a very electronic mixture into their live sets when performing as a trio and his response suggested that having previously been on stage in bands in recent years they’re at their most comfortable playing live. “If the Chemical Brothers played traditional instruments” was his explanation, as he wishes to physically play as much of their sound as they can, including utilising a live drummer. It’s an exciting prospect as their mixture of vocals that you can sing along to and beats that you can dance to should create the kind of party he tells us they’re looking for.

Ali also informed us that a new video is planned to sit alongside the first track. Waking Up The Sun will be launched at a screening in a small cinema in Bermondsey on Friday 14th October. They’ve worked with a new director and cinematographer, obviously putting as much effort into their music videos as they do their music – a tip that works well for all new artists in the Internet age. It also suggests a group that are truly considering this new approach to music, working it all out well beforehand and building it up to the eventual full scale launch – they tell us the debut single, which will be a new tune, is officially scheduled for a release in early 2012. It’s an exciting prospect, as we’re watching a band shift their mood into a happier place and on the basis of these early previews we believe that next year could see them reaping the rewards of more positive outlook. "The Playground - Single Review 4.5/5"

Enfant are that rare mix of catchy pop and electronic charm that had the music press going bonkers a few years back. Bands like Klaxons, Late Of The Pier and MGMT were all the rage and then sadly became obsolete almost immediately. But with the right kind of buzz, could Enfant be the act to bring this once loved sound back to the top?

Their latest single ‘Border Of Mexico’ is certainly a damn good try. A well-produced and catchy electro-pop gem with all the likability of a basket of kittens. It’s got everything a good track should have; Catchy hooks, clean powerful vocals and even a doubling of pace for good measure. But thankfully lacks the pretense that undoubtedly become the downfall of those previously mentioned artists.

It is always good to hear that good quality music can still be found by those willing to make it, and an act as bold and interesting as Enfant are surely the group to bring that touch of class back to the scene. - The Playground

"Indie Here - Review"

London twin brothers Ali and Robin Owen are Enfant, this electronic duo has been making waves in the music industry with remixes of Atlas Genius and Foster The People, but their new track "Border of Mexico", it's what I believe will put them in the music map.The actual track won't be released until December 3rd, but you can have a listen below. - Indie Here

"Fresh On The Net - Review"

Rather than fight like the Gallagher brothers, there’s more sibling cohesion again here in Enfant, an electronic music duo from London, consisting of twin brothers Ali and Robin Owen. They seem to be focusing their energy on making powerful electronic dance music instead of having a dust up, and the results are definitely worth a listen. Border of Mexico is their second release and comes out on December 3rd. - Fresh On The Net

"Track Of The Day #161: Enfant – Border Of Mexico"

Enfant, an electronic music duo consisting of twin brothers Ali and Robin Owen who are from South London….And their track ‘Border of Mexico’ is today’s offering giving us a tantalizing futuristic glimpse of their promise its bricolage of glacial synth sweeps, playful basslines and dazzlingly addictive melodies, capture the hedonistic themes of the song. What’s more it comes replete with a startlingly good video which is redolent of 70s Sci-fi movies and interspersed with scenes of religious and man made devastation. It’s by Enfant, written and edited by film director David Moya, according to the press release ”it follows a man who has come back to Earth from space in a time where the human race has expanded across space and left Earth. It traces this man back to his origins when man lived on Earth but through its actions destroyed it.” - God is in the TV

"Dinosaursification Blog post"

I actually discovered this band "Enfant" because they started following me on Twitter!

Since their bio stated that they were a band I thought I'd follow them back and see what they had to offer.

And what they had to offer was just amazing, A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

Just listen to their most recent single "Border of Mexico" which you can find on Itunes. - Dinosaursification

"REVIEW: Enfant - Border of Mexcio"

For those a seeking pop/electro/groove kick in the ass, especially this time of year. The London-based Enfant, consisting of twin brothers Ali and Robin Owen have followed up their beautifully Intense, breakthrough release “Waking Up The Sun” on Dec. 3rd, with the infectious “Border of mexico”.

“The Border Of Mexico” is a song destined for continuous play on your favorite play list, simple lyrics and infectious beats are guaranteed to get the listener up and moving in the right direction. A perfect length of time (unlike other electro-type songs) and a pristine mix allow The Border Of Mexico to be thoroughly enjoyed. From the opening Synth line to the drum and bass change-ups and relaxing smooth vocals, Enfant keeps you intrigued as the song progresses, making you almost disappointed when the song ends.

The accompanying video is as visually stunning as the song is sonically. Directed by David Moya, no step was overlooked in the creative process of blending music and visual stimulation.

Most definitely an act to keep an eye on for the future, Enfant are on the rise in the U.K, and are steadily making their way across the globe. Check out Enfant here after watching the beautifully directed video for “Border of Mexico”. - The Cherery Chinchilla

"7BitArcade Feature Article - Introducing Enfant"

It always nice to be one of the first to introduce the freshest new talent and London duo Enfant are ones to be excited about. It’s more apparent then ever that band beginnings often arise with strong indie, rock influences; guitar bands working with concepts we’ve heard a millions times and more and although good it’s these cross genre dabblings and experimental progressions that can lead on to something profounder and prolific. Having formed in summer last year twin brothers Ali and Robin Owen are well on their way to putting out a whole load of great tracks and autumn live shows, which is why it’s so great these guys have caught are attention so early on in the game.

Sonically, Enfant fuse dark shimmering electronics with razor sharp synths and strong lead vocals; in no way limiting themselves to one frozen electronic field. Rendering comparisons to the likes of Delphic and Depeche Mode in vibe; creativity and ambient expression through music making is always the best sort and often projects through on records incredibly powerfully, tracks which blast and evoke in sonic rapture.

Enfant make rushing techno tinged tracks. From the crystallised beginnings of The Early Hours to the funk laced twinges of Waking up the Sun for a band only just making their City debuts their sound is effortlessly locked down. Collaged influences of diverse structures, beats and rhythms collide in colour and radiate within the soundscapes which are not only massively addictive in sound but bite with nostalgia and early dawn breaking crescendos.

We briefly caught up with Ali from the band to find out a bit more about the vibe these guys are in the midst of creating and the production behind current material. ‘The vocals for each track come in very different ways. Sometimes we start with a vocal or a concept, sometimes it comes naturally as we put the song together and other times it takes a lot of hard work until we’re satisfied we have the right line. We’re perfectionists and constantly trying to better ourselves. ‘

So why should we see catch these guys live? ‘We sell fun. We write songs that hopefully make you want to sing, dance and jump around. We’re very much about our live show where we play with a live drummer, and if you like losing yourself and letting go then come and see us. You can hear/see a couple of our tracks and videos on our facebook page or soundcloud. But for the real deal, come to one of our gigs. We play all over London very regularly.’

It takes a lot for City based musicians to breakthrough at speed, playing shows nestled in every little corner across London is often the routine, particularly for an act like this and London has some gems when it comes to showcasing electronic acts. Whether it be techno clubs in the east end or underground parties in the heart of south these guys are doing it. This is very much the beginning for Enfant, huge optimism lingers, and this is a project thriving on not only creativity but expression, progression and inspiration; Ideas which spring, merge together and swell. And with blogging hype and internet culture being what it is, if you’re innovative and inspired in producing like this duo are then you should be recognised for that.

Enfant are set to release their debut Border of Mexico as their first official single at the end of November. ‘It’s really just about letting go, losing inhibitions and letting your passions take over. So many people come from the States to Mexico to party and do things they can’t do in America and so it’s about going to a place (not just a physical place) where you can ditch your shackles and be/do whatever it is you want. While we were there we saw these vast open spaces and just thought it would be the perfect setting for a rave; a soundsystem, lights, the desert and the night sky. And Border of Mexico encompasses all of that.’ explains Ali. With visions like this it’s easy to see why their music illuminates in such special texture and trance. - 7BitArcade

Bio

Breaking out above the noise of new acts in London are Enfant, an electronic music duo consisting of twin brothers Ali and Robin Owen. Fast gaining a reputation for their frenetic live shows, this year has seen them smashing underground parties in Peckham to headlining club nights in London's East End. Their live show hits with impact as they leave a trail of big baselines, energetic showmanship and a reputation for creating spontaneous raves in their wake. There is always an overwhelming sense of intrigue in the room and it is always complimented by a feeling that there are bigger things to come.

A tribute to their hedonistic dreams with a landscape of crystalline electronica breaking with an infectious tempo change into a deep bass driven groove, Enfant's new single ‘Border Of Mexico’ follows the success of their first online release ‘Waking Up The Sun’ which brought them support from key tastemaker blogs all over the blogosphere. "The track was inspired by a trip to Mexico and is really just about letting go, losing inhibitions and letting your passions take over" say the twins. "So many people come from the States to Mexico to party and do things they can't do in America and so it's about going to a place (not just a physical place) where you can ditch your shackles and be/do whatever it is you want."

Enfant have already been compared to the likes of Empire Of The Sun, Pnau, Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernaughts and more but ultimately they bring their own unique style and writing to the electronic music scene and have an enviable knack of producing music that you love enough to believe, right there and then. Enfant's goal is simply to create 'a great party'. And that is exactly what they do.
