Ensamble Nuevo Tango

The Ensemble Nuevo Tango was formed in 1998 by Ezekiel Lezama. Long before this the oboist had impressed the world famous Astor Piazzolla, who invited him to perform on the debut of his work “500 Motivaciones”. The ensemble’s repertoire includes mostly Tangos, especially by Astor Piazzolla, but also works by Fernando Egozcue. This group of musicians has managed to find a completely new sound – that certain je ne sais quoi that distinguishes them from many other established Tango groups. Their unique sound is achieved not least through the intentional exclusion of the ultimate Tango instrument – the bandoneon. Thus they play in a constellation that is anything but standard for this genre: oboe, violoncello, percussion, violin, guitar, piano and double bass.
