"SINENOMINE"

4/5 star rating

To find a definition for Sinenomine's music we have to call masters such as Joe Zawinul, creator of an imaginary jazz-rock.
Sinenomine brings this aestethic into a popular soundscape without fixing on a specific musical ethnicity.... popular and baroque music, jazz and improvisation... this is Sinenomine's mastery.

- Rolling Stone

"Sinenomine"

Sicily as the gate for the East.
This Cd by Alessandro Girotto and Sinenomine is a great proof of this aestethic. Classical and traditional sounds mixes with new and fresh ideas that define the contemporary mediterranean soundscapes.
There's a bit of North Africa, a bit of South America, lots from Italy and Spain: passionate songs, lazy and inspiring melodies.... a tipical mediterranean spirit. - www.lisolachenoncera.it

"Sinenomine "spartenza""

Recommended Cd of the Month (june 2009)

Sinenomine is a group of curious musicians interested in musical rarities from the global world. The core structure is the guitar-voice-percussion trio with Alessandro Girotto (signed all compositions and arrangement), the marvellous singer Pilar and Fulvio Maras (also executive producer).... Not easy listening but very sensual and intense music. - Musica Jazz Magazine

Bio

SINENOMINE is founded by guitarist and composer Alessandro Girotto, the talented singer Pilar and percussionist Fulvio Maras.
“Spartenza” is the debut CD: it is inspired by folk music from Sicily and Southern Italy. Spartenza is a Sicilian word that means "separation" but also “to share”: it comes from the “canti di spartenza”, chants related to Sicilian emigrants, about their forced departure and their homesickness; it is a fundamental concept in the Sicilian culture and a very peculiar feeling similar to saudade, or duende from fado.
Renaissance anonymous (sine-nomine) villanelle, popular songs (canti alla carrettiera) from Sicilian emigrants and original compositions draw a musical path from ancient music to contemporary jazz improvisation: a critical approach to Mediterranean popular music without being “folkish”.

Musical References are Egberto Gismonti, Oregon, Roberto De Simone and Matteo Salvatore.

Sinenomine “Spartenza” has been recommended as best Cd of the month by Musica Jazz Magazine (June 2009). On 2nd December 2009, ABC Radio National (Australian National Broadcasting Radio) dedicated the whole daily programme "The Daily Planet" to "Spartenza". German Radio RWS2 has dedicated an episode of “Musik der Welt” program to Spartenza.

Sinenomine toured extensively in Italy in summer 2009 and had 2 sold-out concert (more than 1000 people) at Casa del Jazz (Rome) in April and July 2009 featuring jazz master Gianluigi Trovesi.
Sinenomine toured in 2006 in Turkey with the support of the Italian Culture Institution.

PILAR is one of the most interesting singer and songwriter in the new Italian scene: she’s been Awarded at Pjesma Mediterranea 2009 and Multicultura 2007. Her new Song “Meduse” has been included in NME video Awards 2010.
Alessandro Girotto, guitarist and composer, since ever committed in the study of popular music, he composed and arranged all Sinenomine’s music. He plays also with Franca Masu.
Fulvio Maras, percussionist and producer, has a 30 years career working in the jazz scene by the side of Gianluigi Trovesi. He worked also with many pop artists such as Patti Pravo.
