"Quote from Radio DJ"

“Well I went along to catch some of the glorious Eoghan Colgan at the Tron Theatre tonight. Sizably impressed with his live performance. Eoghan writes wonderful and varied songs, tells great stories between them, and has a sensuous voice to boot.

Catch Eoghan now while he's still playing intimate venues because, mark my words, he won't be playing them for long. Move over Damien, it's time for the sublime Mr. Colgan to take over.” - Thea Newcombe, Radio DJ Q96.3fm

"Review of 'That First Time' E.P."

"Well it worked for Snow Patrol. Eoghan Colgan is a singer/songwriter from Northern Ireland who is now based in Glasgow.

And like Snow Patrol, Eoghan and guitarist Mark Sommerville, bass player Jamie Haig and Drummer Stevie Ross play emotional tunes about love, loss and break-ups.

If you like Travis, James Blunt or David Ford you will definitely like this band.
Opening and title track of this E.P., That First Time has the same chiming guitars used to great effect by Travis, but like all the songs here, it has at it's heart Eoghan's pleasant voice and acoustic guitar. Third song Planetary Woman showcases his catchy way with words: "I need my Planetary Woman because when I go too far I feel her gravity."

Final tune on this six track E.P. I Can't Reach You Anymore is as good a heartfelt ballad about break-up as you'll hear from David Gray or James Blunt. They have the tunes and now all they need is a big break." - Daily Record, Scotland

"Review of 'That First Time' E.P."

"It's a good time for singer/songwriters in Britain at the moment. The acoustic guitar movement has seen the likes of K.T Tunstal and Stephen Fretwell enter the main stream with a sound that is a refreshing change from the oversaaturated market of indie bands. Eoghan Colgan could easily be the next folk like singer to appeal to a wide audience with his tender accoustic songs about love and friendship which are communicated in a much more insightful way than (dare I say his name) James Blunt.

Stand out songs are the E.Ps title name 'That First Time', a brooding and sensitive song about being with someone for the first time and 'I can't Reach You Anymore'.

'That First Time' is a pleasant and distinctive E.P with the potential to reach out to a wide audience." - Livemusicdirect.co.uk

"Newspaper journalist review"

"At an exciting period for solo artists in Britain, Eoghan Colgan is emerging at the right time and with talent in abundance. A haunting voice with impressive songwriting skill, his acoustic melodies in songs such as Breathe and Believe Me send a shiver up your spine" - Evening Times, Scotland

"Review of 'That First Time' E.P."

"This first release from the Glasgow based Irish doctor cum singer songwriter is a pretty good effort. To state the obvious; singer songwriters need a good voice and good songs. Colgan has both here; just listen to the 1st track 'That First Time'. His voice is crystal clear, powerfully driven and hits you between the eyes. Instrumentation is excellent too, and the EP has great sounding production.
His songs cover the familiar territory of love and loss, but not all are downbeat. On 'Sunny Days' Colgan proves singer songwriters CAN occasionally have a good day, and write a good song about it too. That track and the closer 'I Can't Do This Anymore' are my standouts. 'I Can't... .' being a stripped down number playing a quiet guitar off Colgan's piercing vocals.
Some good work here, give him a whirl!" - Crookedrain.co.uk

"Live Review"

“By right's I should be annoyed at Eoghan Colgan. He's the first Irishman I've met since the Guinness haze that was St Paddy's night; my head is splitting and I'm looking for someone to blame. However luckily I'm not the sort of person to hold grudges and he seemed a nice enough fellow, plus I had already heard his E.P 'That First Time' so I was looking forward to a night of good music.

In the best traditions of Irish singer/songwriters Eoghan Colgan's music is about love, life and having a good time. From the opening song 'All I Need' it is clear that he has a good voice and a natural stage presence. The song itself is taken directly from the E.P and is very uplifting with some great guitar work. In fact all his songs have this real feel good vibe to them that just sings of summer. This was no more so epitomised by one of my favourite tracks of the E.P, 'Sunny Days'. This is toe tapping music at its best and was clearly a winner with the audience with many a head bobbing along enthusiastically. This is a song that makes you feel good about yourself and I could almost feel summer approaching.

The stand out song of the night for me was the title song 'That First Time' a really powerful piece with a beautiful guitar riff. This is one of those songs that makes you just stop and listen, with its beautiful lyrics and haunting melody; this is the song you will remember most. But it's not just the lyrics that make this song, the electric guitar and percussion really opens up the track giving it a much greater depth. Eoghan really benefits from having some quality musicians backing him and their presence can be clearly be heard not only in his live show but throughout the E.P.

This album reminds me of the first time I heard David Gray's 'White Ladder', which became my album of the summer back in 1998. Eoghan has a great voice and the song writing skills to match, this is the perfect album to chill out to this summer. So if you like your acoustic music to have a feel good vibe with great melodies and catchy lyrics then you will love 'That First Time'. I guarantee you will be hearing more of this boy.” - Livemusicdirect.co.uk

"Live Review"

"This song saved my life one day", Colgan says to his audience, "I was playing in Northern Ireland, being threatened that if I was no good then I was going to get the shit kicked out of me. I was pissing my panties, to put it nicely"

From this opener you can tell that the banter from the Irish doctor is going to be flying. Its about time somebody challenged the obvious clich of a man with a guitar and tried something different. Move over, Mr. Blunt and Mr. Gray, its time that Eoghan Colgan hits centre stage. Colgan has recently launched his first EP 'That First Time' and held the launch night in the ABC in Glasgow.

The similarities are obvious to the likes of Damien Rice; hes Irish, he plays guitar, he writes his own songs and they are of an acoustic-meets-pop-meets-folk-meets-rock variety. The natural stage presence that he shows off is one not to be missed. Hes able to have a good laugh with the audience, getting them involved, drawing them into his stories of how he created the song and overall, leave them lost for words and shouting out for more.

"I started playing guitar to try and win female attention. But twelve years later Im still waitin", cue 90% of the audience screaming out his name. The other 10% were made up of journalists and males, and watching these journalists bopping along to Sunny Days was a sight to see. You could tell from the atmosphere of the night and from the media figures present, that Colgan has a promising future ahead of him. Eoghan opened with the crowd favourite All I Need and closed with Breath a song about the tsunami disaster. In between these songs I was too mesmerised by the whole band's performance to take mental notes of how this song had topped the previous song. With every new song, its easy to think "Surely it cant get better than that". But Colgan proves you wrong. Very wrong.

As the night draws to a close, Colgan thanks the audience members for coming along to support him and for the interest, but most of all for his band mates. A very modest man, but praise must certainly go to his band mates: Mark Somerville on lead guitar, Jamie Haig on bass and Stevie Ross on drums.

With the right exposure Eoghan Colgan will be an artist to contend with nationwide, and next time you hear hes playing in a venue, be sure to go along youll be glad you did before hes on regular tours of the U.K. With the talent, enthusiasm, and band mates any artist could only ever dream of behind him, its only a matter of time before his dreams of success are met and quite rightly so. - Top Notch Student Magazine

Bio

Eoghan is a doctor and singer-songwriter from Northern Ireland. Whilst working in a bush hospital in Africa in 1998 he contracted a near-fatal dose of malaria. His only comfort was a cassette given to him by his brother before he left. On this was an album that changed his life. Jeff Buckley's 'Grace'. On his return, Eoghan, new to singing and songwriting, endlessly tried to cover some of Jeff Buckleys songs. With a voice now endlessly compared to Jeff Buckley, it seems his near death experience has shaped Eoghans whole musical life.

"The Jeff Buckley-esqe agility of his voice made for a quietly enthralling curtain-raiser" Q Magazine
"One heck of a voice" Jim Gellatly, BBC Scotland
"Eoghan has a God-given talent, that being his incredible voice. With the right help and development he could go on to sell millions of albums" Amanda Ghost (President of Epic Records and co-author of Jame's Blunts 'You're Beautiful")

In 2007 Eoghan stunned some key industry experts in London with his performance which would award him the O2 Undiscovered music bursary for being the most exciting new act in the UK. He has since shared stages with Tom Jones, the Manic Street Preachers, Athlete, Hard Fi and Kate Nash. He has performed at huge events including the Q Magazine Awards Launch Party at the O2 Arena in London, The Wireless Festival in Hyde Park, The Grazia Magazine Awards Ceremony in London, The Scottish Fashion Awards Ceremony in Stirling Castle, the Mobie Phone World Conference in Barcelona and the Guinness 250 Arthurs Day Celebration in Dublin. He has released two singles on his own label (Eject Records) which have been playlisted on dozens of nationwide radio stations including RTE1 in Ireland and BBC Scotland. One of the most consistently popular acts in his adopted Glasgow, Eoghan has recently completed tours through the UK and also America to rave reviews. Eoghan has also recently completed the full soundtrack to a new independent British Movie starring a host of British Theatrical Legends as well as a first-time actor - 'Strictly Come Dancings' Len Goodman, making his debut cameo performance.
