"Erica Mou"

Erica Mou is one of the most exciting and creative Italian singer-songwriters around. Born in Bisceglie in 1990, Erica has been composing her own music and writing her own lyrics since the beginning, combining naïve grace and sensual irony that are both natural to her.
Erica is currently studying Arts and Philosophy at the University of Bari and, at the same time, standing out on the Italian music scene as one of its most impressive female voices, as well as performing on stages across the country in a fervid live activity.
Between 2008 and 2009 Erica is awarded a series of prestigious prizes, among these: the “Liri Festival” award, the “Canzone Italiana d’Autore” award, the “Arè Rock Festival” award, the “L’artista che non c’era” award, the “SIAE Best Lyrics award”, the “M.E.I. Best Indie Pop Revelation” award and a finalist position in the 2009 edition of “Musicultura”.
On March 8th 2011 Erica releases “È”, her debut album on Sugar label. The album, which is immediately chosen to run up for that year’s “Tenco Award”, contains eleven autobiographical tracks which highlight her quality and deep talent as both composer and performer. “È” also contains the bonus track “Don’t Stop”, Erica’s sweet cover version of Fleetwood Mac’s classic 70’s hit chosen by eni for its official TV and radio advertising campaign. Produced by one of Bjork’s very own producers, Valgeir Sigurosson, straight out of Iceland and arranged by Matthew “MaJiKer” Ker , “È” exquisitely merges the greatest atmospheres of the Italian singer-songwriting tradition with purely folk-rock tones and a certain international appeal. The album features the single “Oltre” which is included in "Puglia Sounds - The music system", a collection of the hippest music “made in Puglia”, sold together with “La Repubblica”’s trendy “XL” magazine in November 2010. “Oltre” is also chosen for the end credits scene to Roberta Torre’s motion picture “I baci mai dati”, acclaimed at the 2010 Venice Film Festival and the only Italian picture included in the 2011 edition of Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival. “È” also includes “La neve sul mare” included in the double cd pack “La leva del cantautorale degli anni zero”, supervised by MEI and Club Tenco. Straight after the album is released Erica sets out on a new live tour that takes her to the most notorious stages around: from Rome’s Piazza San Giovanni for the mega annual Mayday concert, to Verona’s prestigious Arena for the 2011 Wind Music Awards ceremony, where she is handed the Special Prize awarded by the Italian music industry institutions FIMI, PMI and AFI to young artists. Erica also guests in the internationally renowned Heineken Jammin’ Festival and the MTV Days held in Turin. The MEI Festival awards Erica as best new 2011 act and later that year, side by side with Subsonica and Caparezza, she stars in the third edition of Hit Week, the biggest Italian music fest in the States, held in New York, Los Angeles and Miami.
With her track “Nella vasca da bagno del tempo” Erica partakes in the 2012 Sanremo Festival in the Sanremo Social section, especially created for artists in the making. Erica gains impressive attention and the song is awarded the “Mia Martini Critics Award” as well as the “Press and Radio Critics Award” and the “Lunezia Award” as best lyrics in its section. Written by Erica herself, “Nella vasca da bagno del tempo” features a series of notable guests: the single was arranged and produced by Davide Rossi, violinist, arranger and composer who regularly works with Coldplay, Royksopp, Siouxie and Alicia Keys, and was mixed by Rik Simpson reputable for his work with Coldplay, Jay-Z, Portishead, Kasabian, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and PJ Harvey.
On 14th February 2012, Sugar repacks “È”, this time with the addition of the Sanremo track. After her acclaimed Sanremo experience, Erica is nominated for the 2012 TRL Mtv Awards for “Best New Generation” artist.
After covering over 100 live performances with her “È” tour, Erica hits Europe and plays live in France, Germany and the UK. In July 2012 Erica performs at the Arezzo Wave Fest, one of Italy’s hippest rock festivals. A few months later, in November, she nonchalantly switches to theatre as she stars in Bari’s Teatro Petruzelli in “Meraviglioso Modugno”, a musical opening - dedicated to Domenico Modugno - to the second edition of the Medimex meetings in Bari.
In the same year Erica embraces two fund-raising activities: she records “Io Esisto” written by Davide “Boosta” Dileo and Francesco Tricarico to become the official 2012 Telethon theme track and, together with 20 other artists she records "Ancora in piedi" by I.P.E.R. (Indipendenti per Emilia Romagna e Lombardia) to raise funds for the earthquake stricken people of Emilia Romagna and Lombardy.
2013 begins with Erica co-starring with Savino Zaba in "Beato 'a' chi ti Puglia”, a sprightly theatrical and musica - Sugar Music
