Story and pix by Mary Jane Farmer

Perhaps one of the brightest new stars in the Texas music sky, Erica Perry, former Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader, held her on when she shared the stage June 19 with Trent Willmon, Texan turned Nashville singer/songerwriter, and rodeo man.

Joining Erica on Love & War’s stage were Jackson Eli on lead guitar and Jake Reeves on harmonica. She performed a mix of covers with several of her own songs, including a crowd-pleaser “Skinny Dipping.” Her bouncy spirit captivated the audience, and her choice of set songs were a perfect opening to warm the crowd up for Trent’s set.

Trent has been described as “too Texan for Nashville and too Nashville for Texas.” His stage performance showed his Nashville training in his body language, more practiced for effect, at least in the first hour. He relaxed at times, sporting that genuine smile that could charm a chicken into a frying pan.

Willmon has penned songs recorded by Montgomery Gentry (Back When I Knew It All), Steel Magnolia (Keep On Loving You), Brad Paisley (Better Than This), Eric Church (Before She Does), and several others, including local favorite Johnny Cooper (Somewhere In Between).

Bio

Erica Perry

We all have bucket lists that we want to complete before we leave this earth and that's no different for Leander, TX
native, Erica Perry. Fueled by passion for music, a drive to succeed and the desire to share her music with fans, this
'gypsy soul' unleashes her first full length project WANDERING DAISY in early 2014. Bringing the album's release to
fruition, Perry checks off an important item on her list, delivering a CD chock-full of her own country bohemian style and
flair. Teaming with producer Beau Bedford and collaborating with friend and fellow artist, Phil Hamilton, Erica delivers a
soulful, insightful project that has received rave reviews from her peers. "I heard the roughs of Erica's project and she
sounds amazing and Beau really nailed it with the production," says Phil Hamilton.
Perry began singing at a young age and is no stranger to performing live in front of thousands of fans. She became one
of 'America's Sweethearts' when she was picked as a Dallas Cowboy's Cheerleader. This allowed her to not only cheer,
but also sing in front of rabid Dallas Cowboys fans at Texas Stadium and on the USO Tour to Iraq and Korea for the
troops. Her time ended with the Cowboys and she hurdled head first into song writing and performing. "Writing is an
outlet for me when I am sad, mad or happy, it's my way to hide from reality and face it all at the same time," says Perry,
"performing sets me free it's the one place I feel completely safe to expose who I really am." She wrote and co-wrote all
the songs on WANDERING DAISY.
In addition, Erica Perry starred in the TV series The Next with country artist, John Rich, and made it to the top 4 in Dallas,
TX and top 25 in the Nation which proved to be a good experience for her, making her realize that she wanted to do
music her way and on her terms. "Fame or money isn't what drives me to do what I love. I really do have a gypsy soul
and of course I would love to perform for thousands of people but only because I could move someone emotionally the
way others have done for me," Perry says.
Perry set her sights on perfecting her craft of songwriting and performing. Before long she began performing around the
DFW Metroplex, opening for many of Texas music royalty like Jason Boland and the Stragglers, Kyle Park and Brandon
Rhyder. She also teamed up with artist, Trent Willmon on a duet of "Baby It's Cold Outside." Willmon produced Perry's
Christmas EP Whiskey in My Eggnog.

Perry was able to mark off an additional item on her bucket list, when she performed at the Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville
this past year. She shares the dreams of other country artists, like playing the Grand Ole Opry, hearing one of her songs
on the radio, charting a single on the music charts, having a major artist record one of her songs, and playing to a sold-
out crowd. But her ultimate aspiration is simple as she shares, "Music is truly healing and if someone else can't speak
the words I will do it for them. That is my goal!"
Performing is in her blood and the spotlight has grabbed her and won't let go according to Perry, "I'd say the best part of
playing music would have to be being able to play my own music and sing my own lyrics knowing someone will relate. I
love to perform. I have always been a performer and always will be."
Whether she is writing a hit single or on the stage performing, one thing is evident, Erica Perry's passion for life and
music is portrayed in WANDERING DAISY.
