The locks have changed

Written By: Eric D

It’s time that we end this...no troubles, no pain
In my heart... you can no longer remain
With the ghost of your past...I could never compete
You know the one who played you... betrayed you was cruel and would retreat

The pedestal that you placed him on... I could never reach
You changed my world now ...the sun sets in the east
Keep living in your past ...because it’s not mine
You’ve done me so wrong... for the very last time

The locks have changed and the curtains are closed
Our future together is no more
You chose your path, to live in the past
When the world in the present seems so vast
You’re trapped in time, you remain so blind
Not looking forward; always behind
Each second is precious and love is true
While you figure that out, I won’t wait for you

You say that you love me...but I need no lies
You’re thinking of him right now...I can see it in your eyes
The more that you deny... the more I do believe
You play these heart games...I know where you wanna be

Away with him...lost in the dream
It will always be a dream... no matter how real it seems
He’s been playing you... like you played me
There’s one big difference...I know when to break free

The locks have changed and the curtains are closed
Our future together is no more
You chose your path, to live in the past
When the world in the present seems so vast
You’re trapped in time, you remain so blind
Not looking forward; always behind
Each second is precious and love is true
While you figure that out, I won’t wait for you

(You) say that you’re sorry...that you wanna try to make this last
But I’ve gotta let it go...to be the next ghost in your past
All memories of you... I'll put away in an old shoe box
It’s because of you...my heart is now under guard and…

Locks have changed and the curtains are closed
Our future together is no more
You chose your path, to live in the past
When the world in the present seems so vast
You’re trapped in time, you remain so blind
Not looking forward; always behind
Each second is precious and love is true
While you figure that out, I won’t wait for you

The locks have changed and the curtains are closed
Our future together is no more
You chose your path, to live in the past
When the world in the present seems so vast
You’re trapped in time, you remain so blind
Not looking forward; always behind
Each second is precious and love is true
While you figure that out, I won’t wait for you

Daddy was a Soldier

Daddy was a Soldier

Written By

Eric B. Davis

Today was the big day…. the 2nd grade class would give their speech.
Katie waited patiently for her chance to speak.

Tommy spoke of his dad…he was a local town judge.
Sally’s dad was a barkeep known for serving suds

Katie’s turn had come and you could see the fear in her face.
She was so afraid and her heart began to race.

Katie’s mind went blank and her words seemed all caught.
She took a moment to remember …what her momma had taught.

So Katie said:

Daddy was a soldier ….Daddy was a hard working man
Sent to fight for freedom…Upon a foreign land.
Daddy was a soldier ….Daddy was a good hearted man
Daddy’s coming home…we just don’t know when.

Katie spoke of one time …when her dad was home on a leave.
When he saw her, the tears rolled down and he wiped them with his sleeve.

That little baby of his ….who had been his whole world.
Was no longer his baby…. She was now his little girl.

He wondered if his service… had really been worth all the fuss.
Then he thought about her freedom ….and felt it was a must.

Katie begged her daddy …”please don’t do go away”.
He told her “one last tour and your Daddy is here to stay

But for now:

Daddy is a soldier ….Daddy is a hard working man
Sent to fight for freedom…Upon a foreign land.
Daddy is a soldier ….Daddy is a good hearted man
Daddy’s coming home…I just don’t know when.

Katie started to cry… then the teacher held her hand.
She whispered if you are finished …there’s no need for you to stand.

Katie said there one more thing… that I want the class to know.
The part of the story…that made my tears flow.

Yesterday mama got the call... no wife should ever hear.
Your husband has died … it rang inside her ears.

Katie asked her mama ….when is daddy coming home?
She said that he has made it as angels sing his song.

They sang:

Daddy was a soldier….Daddy was a hard working man
Sent to fight for freedom…Upon a foreign land.
Daddy was a soldier ….Daddy was a good hearted man
Daddy has made it home…and that is where this story ends.
