Influenced by indie folk, rock and acoustic music from across the globe, songwriter/guitarist Erik Hendin has been has been writing, performing and recording since the early 90's. His latest track, "Henry Poole is Here", exhibits his signature sound, with organic arrangements, thoughtful lyrics and a "close" live energy that draw the listener in to all kinds of emotional spaces. One minute he's playing a personal original number in vein of Nick Drake, then we'll hear a rock tune with lyrics about animals and he'll end it off with a love song and an acoustic latin-funk version of Norwegian Wood. And yet it always sounds like him, as he weaves the story together with trademark lyrics, an emotional voice and electric stage presence.
"What I mainly do is tell stories, through the music, lyrics, the guitar voicings... it all has a place in keeping the sound "close" to the listener. In the beginning for me it was mostly about just getting out feelings, developing as a guitar player, or even just getting a trance-like feeling going to feel a release... Now I think more about the message and a space in the music, and I like to bring the listener into that space with me... and that could happen in a serious folk ballad or even a rock song about animals (of which I've done several). To me it's about more than a catchy hook or a personal lyric, it's a cluster of musical and lyric voices that interact with the listener. And the audience has a role in that interaction, adding new life and meaning to the songs with each performance. And mostly it's just a lot of FUN."
Credits include network television placement on Oprah, A&E, CBS and interviews with international radio syndicate, "Voices of America" (broadcast in over 90 languages around the world).
Hendin's music was the soundtrack for film documentary "A Secret Best Not Kept", screened at conferences and movie theaters across the country. Other accolades include Finalist in MakeAStar.com and Everly Strings contests.
Erik's track "I'm a Survivor" was on One Way Magazine's sampler with the likes of Rod Stewart, Dar Williams and Mike Gordon (Phish).
