Bio

With innovative guitar work, poignant lyrics and an intense emotional presence, Erik Hendin has been making a buzz at clubs, folk festivals and Survivors conferences around the country. Noted performances include the Lincoln Memorial SPAN conference in Washington, DC, AFSP's National Conference for Survivors of Suicide and AAS Annual Survivor's Day 2003 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

His track "Disappear" was praised by MakeAStar.com as "a great song with an artist who can obviously perform live and has a lot to say." A Taxi reviewer said of Erik's guitar playing, "Doc Watson would be proud."

In a course of events that would change his life forever, on April 12, 2001 his girlfriend committed suicide. Erik began to write and perform songs like "Disappear" and "I'm a Survivor".

"Recording songs like 'Disappear' was one of the most difficult things I've ever done, but it was the only way I knew how to express the horror, the trauma and the guilt I felt over someone I loved so dearly. Music has saved my life many times, and this was no exception. When I can release some of these complicated feelings my music, be it in a chord progression, guitar lick or vocal melody, there's a tremendous feeling of healing that occurs - a larger perspective that soothes the pain, even if for just a moment. It's one of the main reasons I have dedicated my life to it. I also felt compelled to let people know what happened to Stevie, and to me in the process. And knowing that this song and songs like "I'm a Survivor" has been comforting for people experiencing loss and depression is incredibly rewarding for me. It's as though by going to the deepest part of myself, I have touched other people. One man from Canada told me that my songs helped him cope with the loss of his son. Stories like this are so meaningful to me, because I felt so helpless in losing Stevie. To think I could make a positive difference in someone else's life from something that came out of such tragedy is unbelievable, and I hope to continue to do so as much as possible."

Hendin integrates the excitement, talent and drama of a seasoned performer into an emotional style with a powerful message based on profound circumstances.
