- Honolulu Adverstiser - Honolulu Star Advertiser

"Best of Maui, 2009/10/11"

“(Erin Smith has) quickly become the Maui scene’s darling of wahine rockers, and time and again readers have voted her as their far-and-away fave. There’s something gloriously--yet girlishly--guttural in the way she belts her beautiful tunes.” - Maui Time Weekly, Best of 2011 - Mauitime, Alt Weekly

Bio:

Blessed with a striking stage presence and a powerful voice, singer-songwriter-guitarist Erin Smith leaves a lasting impression.

Born in Toronto, Smith spent her youth in a large musical family, learning violin and vocals.
She took up guitar in her teens, began writing songs and was quickly asked to perform at prestigious festivals such as Canadian Music Week and North by Northeast.
After sharing the stage with notable Canadian artists (Feist, Tegan and Sara) and touring much of North America and some of Europe and Cuba with her band and her all-girl collective, the Ladybird Sideshow, Erin decided to move south and hone her songwriting and performing skills in a new
environment, drawing from new, fresh influences.

Smith relocated to the Hawaiian island of Maui in 2004, and has been traveling between the islands and the mainland to perform ever since. While on Maui she has amassed a large and devoted local fan-base & made many new fans of the travelers who hit the Hawaiian islands. Smith has been voted "Best Female Musician On Maui" in the Mauitime Weekly Alt Magazine 4 years in a row and has made notable appearances at local events alongside Anuhea, Paula Fuga, Daughtry, Ozomatli and other notable Hawaiian and national acts.

Erin has released one album entitled “Swagger”, a strong seller both at live shows and online at the shops of distributors itunes, Amazon and Rhapsody. Stylistically diverse, her music falls into the pop-
rock realm, but is peppered by elements of reggae.

In 2012, Erin headed to the studio to record her follow up solo album in Montreal. She worked with the production team responsible for Arcade Fire's album “Funeral”.

Currently Smith performs solo, as a duo (with a bass player/percussionist) or with The Throwdowns.

Much of her time is devoted to The Throwdowns, an up & coming Hawai'i-based band who are often declared to be the next big Hawaiian export. Erin is the singer in The Throwdowns, and alongside bandmates Kimo Clark, Ian Hollingsworth and Ola Shaw, she has performed with The Fray, Train, Panic at the Disco, Orianthi, Steel Pulse, Matisyahu, Edward Sharpe & the Magenetic Zeros and several other national acts in the last two years. The Throwdowns were nominated for two Na Hoku Hano Hano Awards for their 2010 debut EP "Don't Slow Down", and nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2012 Na Hoku Hanohano awards for their album "Legs of Our Own". The band performed their single "Automatic" live on the Na Hoku televised broadcast.
