Bio
Brought together by their love of Phil Spector, Motown, '70s classic rock, and Kurtis Blow. Abbe Ertel Magid (Vocals) and Matthew Bridges (Guitar / Sample Production) began writing songs in mid-2010 in the back room of Bridges' cramped Echo Park (LA) house.
After months of fruitless searching they hooked up with Greg Camphire, a graduate of M.I.'s drum/percussion program. It was evident from their first rehearsal with Camphire that his strong technical background and excellent sense of groove would provide the essential drumming bedrock that the new songs required.
The influences of the three members, which include (but are not limited to) Fela Kuti, Janis Joplin, Doom, Sly and The Family Stone, James Brown, Iggy and The Stooges, Flying Lotus, Feist, Patti Smith, Bill Withers, and horror movies such as Suspiria and House have coalesced into a musical style that features powerful female lead vocals and fuzzed out guitars intertwining over funky, backbeat grooves and crushing blues-based choruses.
Think of the soulfulness of Aretha Franklin combined with the drumming of Zepplin and some Cornelius samples thrown in for good measure. Definitely not your standard three piece.
