COSMOPOLITAN three-piece band Erwann et Les Seraphins are Erwann Caillet, 26, originally from Brittany, bassist - compatriot Kevin, 24, and Paul, 21, as drummer, recently signed to indie label Mon Amour Records.
Les Seraphins were the closest angels to God. He sent them down to educate humans to work together in peace and harmony, and they had great powers. But they fell in love with the women, and God went mental, banning them from Paradise.
Coming over somewhat like the Violent Femmes, inspirations are very diverse. French artists like George Brassens, Leo Ferrer, Renaud and Francis Cabrel. Ska music is also in the mix, so The Specials is up there, along with punk and rock bands like the Sex Pistols, Joy Division, Guns n Roses and more recently Les Fatals Picards, Ska-p and Mano Chao.
Their lyrics are a Gallic mix of funky acoustic sound married to funny, risqué and essentially subtle romantic lyrics. The first single released is Ma Petite Anglaise (French and English version), with La Coeur a Flots, and they are now recording their debut album.
