"Escape to Victory @ Tunnels, 2/2/10"

"Last but not least were Escape To Victory, probably my favourite band in Aberdeen at the moment and the reason I went to this gig. I’ll openly admit, I have a huge hard-on for E2V, so if you’d prefer not to read 100 words of me relentlessly noshing them off, I’d suggest you skip to the end. E2V play a hardcore punk style with so much energy you’d be forgiven for thinking they’ve had their blood drained and replaced with Red Bull. Wiry frontman Jamie stands atop the monitors precariously and snarls his way through the songs with a voice similar to a young Jake Burns, while guitarist Paul bounds around the stage wearing a permanent grin, like an overexcited puppy whose paws are too big and he keeps tripping over things. Drummer Duncan batters the drums like he fucking hates them. They have 4 vocals, each sounding pretty different to the other, and this is used to full effect on their fantastic gang vocals. Let’s not fuck around here. E2V are good. Really fucking good. They are so good, it’s not fair to the rest of us. If this band aren’t playing bigger and better venues within the next two years, there’s something very wrong with the world. Though there may be a question mark over whether thy can capture this much relentless, punch-you-in-the-face energy on CD as well as they do in the live setting.

Escape To Victory - less blurry in real life than they are in this picture.

During the gig E2V unleash anthem after anthem; by the end of the set, Paul has dropped his guitar and jumped into the mosh pit, and all the microphones have been thrown into the crowd for them to provide the backing vocals, which they do with some aplomb. Their energy is more infectious than swine flu, chicken pox and AIDS combined, and the crowd is well and truly eating of their hand. Come midnight, the crowd disperses and heads home, sweaty, deafened, and probably still singing an E2V song in their head."

"Escape to Victory - The Front Page EP Review"

Are you a fan of…
…spiky punk rock?
…mountains of attitude?
…chant-along choruses?

If you answered yes to all those questions, then let me introduce you to Escape to Victory, a four-piece punk-hardcore outfit from Aberdeen. Formed in 2006, The Front Page is Escape to Victory’s latest EP packed full of 5 raw chunks of powerful punk rock.

The amazingly titled Lessons Learnt From Rocky IV to VI, kicks off proceedings, beginning serenely before exploding into a tour de force of hardcore, while track three, Sound the Alarm, is perhaps the best track on the EP, with a slick finger-tapped solo and chant along chorus, which is sure to have your head banging and fist pumping. The Front Page then ends with Army of Mannequins, a storming track with melodic guitars and a kick-ass breakdown in the middle.

True to the punk style, these five tracks are short and vigorous, and with a running time of around ten minutes, the EP doesn’t overstay its welcome. Sharp, heavy and unadulterated: this is music that punches you in the face, demands your wallet, and runs away laughing. You have been warned…

The Front Page is out now on GFN? Records.

"The Outcry Collective w/ Escape to Victory"

Ending the night on an extreme high are Aberdeen’s Escape To Victory. Thrashing through the set like they only have ten minutes to play, the band show off some stupidly impressive punk rock, almost in the same vein as Anti Flag with a hardcore edge reminiscent of The Ghost Of A Thousand. Comparing the band to these two accomplished artists is maybe a bit too easy though. Escape To Victory have something unique that I haven’t seen from any Aberdeen band to date. Their onstage banter is completely refreshing to watch and you feel part of the experience throughout the set, and for 30 minutes or so the whole room feels like one big family. That is what this band manages to captivate onstage. Peddling through their songs with some impressive precision and ruthless delivery, Escape To Victory deserve to be playing to bigger crowds than this. I’ll bet my left testicle that one day they will. 4/5" - Dailydischord.com

Bio

Escape To Victory formed in the summer from 2006 from members of The Planeteers and The Upstarts with the intention of creating a quad vocalled, "in your face" style of melodic hardcore punk that is lacking in Aberdeen at the moment. We played our first gig in May 2007 and have since had the opportunity to play across Scotland with the likes of Sonic Boom Six, Skindred, Sham 69 and The King Blues amongst others and supported Chief (Household Name Records) on their 2008 Scottish tour. Steve left in July 2008 and we're back with Duncan of Flaming Katy on drums. We're looking to play as much as possible in the next year and are up for gig swaps, splits, compilations and all sorts of punk rock shennanigans.

"In-yer-face positive melodic hardcore punk from Aberdeen in an Ignite/Strike Anywhere/Kid Dynamite stylee. With a distinctly north-east take on the mid-90s Epi/Fat skatecore sound, look for lashings of fist-in-the-air punk rock love, double-time and gang-chants aplenty." - Deeker (Joey T)
